Sorry for the lack of posts, but I’ve had company for the past few days.
What have I missed? Considering it is July during the silly season, I’m assuming not much. BTW, Newsroom last night was awesome.

It occurs to me that some of you may not have deranged relatives who forward absurd anti-Obama emails. It also occurs to me that it would be selfish to hog all the wingnutty goodness, so here’s an excerpt of an email forward that landed in my inbox last week:
Forwarded as received, but without comment, please do the same. Yes, he told us in advance what he planned to do. Few were listening.
The following is a narrative taken from a 2008 Sunday morning televised “Meet The Press.”
From Sunday’s 07 Sept. 2008, 11:48:04 EST, Televised “Meet the Press” the then
Senator Obama was asked about his stance on the American Flag.General Bill Ginn, USAF (ret.), asked Obama to explain WHY he doesn’t follow
protocol when the National Anthem is played.‘Senator’ Obama replied: “As I’ve said about the flag pin, I don’t want to be perceived as taking
sides…..” “There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression….” “The anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air, and all that sort of thing.”(ARE YOU READY FOR THIS???)
Obama continued:, “The National Anthem should be ‘swapped’ for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song ‘I’d Like To Teach the World To Sing.’ If that were our anthem, then I might salute it. In my opinion, we should consider reinventing our National Anthem as well as ‘redesign’ our Flag to better offer our enemies hope and love. It’s my intention, if elected, to
Disarm America to the level of acceptance to our Middle East Brethren. If we, as a Nation of warring people, conduct ourselves like the nations of Islam, where peace prevails – – – perhaps a
state or period of mutual accord could exist between our governments ……”“When I become President, I will seek a pact of agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity, and a freedom from disquieting oppressive thoughts . We as a Nation, have placed upon the nations of Islam, an unfair injustice, which is WHY my wife disrespects the Flag, and she and I have attended several flag burning ceremonies in the past.”
[snip]My wife and I look forward to becoming our Country’s First black Family. Indeed, CHANGE is about to overwhelm the United States of America.”
EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA NEEDS TO READ THIS, KEEP IT GOING ! ! SAVE AMERICA BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE ! !
If you go to Snopes.com (which I always advise the forwarders and everyone cc’d to do prior to hitting “send” — to no avail), you’ll find that the absurd dialogue attributed to President Obama was from a satirical piece, a thing that should be immediately obvious to any sentient creature. But the people who forward emails like this to their entire contact list apparently believe it is plausible that then-candidate Obama went on Meet the Press and:
1) Proposed changing the national anthem to “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing”
2) Advocated disarming the US to please “our Middle Eastern Brethren”
3) Admitted attending flag-burning ceremonies with the future First Lady
4) Threatened to overwhelm America with blackity-black-black-oogity-boogity prior to the 2008 election.
Here’s the thing for all those who are — as I often am — tempted to assume the 27% comprises only mumbling old coots who spend all day in urine-stained Barcoloungers watching Fox News and cleaning replica Civil War rifles: People who are gullible enough to find that email plausible aren’t necessarily drooling morons, at least about ALL topics.
They rotate your tires. They vaccinate your children. They process your cable bills. And they vote. Sweet dreams!

I simply adore the Basset Master for posts like this one. An excerpt, in which a pair of whiny dickheads who discovered to their horror that Barack Obama is — gasp! a politician!— are righteously ridiculed:
And what is Michael Zambrelli’s greatest achievement in life? Well, he is the man who helped to rebrand Chuck E. Cheese from a teenager forced into wearing a moth-eaten rat costume reeking of sweat, old cheese and minimum wage while entertaining packs of feral children eating slightly warm cardboard and ketchup-flavored pizza when they’re not cavorting in one of those Ball Pits of Childhood Diseases into a backwards-hat-wearing “hip, electric-guitar-playing rock star” just like Scott Stapp but with less Jesus.
Maybe it’s because I once had to crawl into a urine-stinking human Habitrail at Chuck E. Cheese and haul out a naked feral child who was blocking the exit chute, thus entrapping a dozen children, including my then five-year-old daughter, that I found TBogg’s description so howlingly funny. Or maybe it’s just because TBogg is the funniest motherfucker in the universe. Rock on, Mr. Bogg.

Your liberal media:
The Swift Boat line of attack went along the info-news conveyor belt from some limited paid media and a book, to right-leaning earned media, to cable news, to the broadcast networks and major print publications. So far, that hasn’t happened with the Obama attack (on Bain). New media allows the Democrats on their own to spread the message through literally hundreds of platforms, but that doesn’t mean it will take over big-time earned media and dominate the campaign discourse, the way Swift Boats did.
Made-up bullshit about a war hero: lots of media time.
Facts about vulture capitalsim (at a time when outsourcing is a big issue): media meh.

I know we’ve written about this a lot already, but did you evah?
Peter Cohen, the former Shearson Lehman Bros. chief, told the Associated Press — while chewing on a cigar — that Romney is a “plain-talking guy.”
Ted Conklin, who owns the American Hotel in Sag Harbor, told the New York Times that Obama is a “socialist.”
“His idea is find a problem that doesn’t exist and get government to intervene,” Conklin added, his wife, Carol Simmons, nodding beside him in their gold Mercedes.
Ms. Simmons paused to highlight what she said was her husband’s generous spirit: “Tell them who’s on your yacht this weekend! Tell him!”
Over Mr. Conklin’s objections, Ms. Simmons disclosed that a major executive from Miramax, the movie company, was on the 75-foot yacht, because, she said, there were no rooms left at the hotel.
After the way these assholes went after John Kerry for wind-surfing, if we don’t nail their feed to the ground and shove this stuff down their throat, then we may as well just suffocate ourselves with tote-bags.

The Republican health care “plan” described in detail in Bloomberg:
Shirley Johnson gets her medical care at Palmetto Health Baptist hospital’s emergency room in Columbia, South Carolina. She goes when her back gives out or when a benign tumor near her ribcage swells and throbs. She goes for headaches, heartburn, and spider bites, leaving the hospital a sheaf of unpaid bills.
“I owe so much money,” said Johnson. “The last time I went just for my toe. It cost $1,000.”
Enlarge image South Carolina Governor Nikki HaleyJohnson, as a 49-year-old with no dependents, isn’t eligible for Medicaid, the joint state-federal health program for the poor, which covers about 20 percent of the state’s residents. And in two years, when President Barack Obama’s health-care overhaul allows the expansion of Medicaid to cover 17 million more Americans, she may still be left behind.
Governor Nikki Haley, a Tea Party-backed Republican, was among the first state leaders to oppose expanding Medicaid after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the federal government can’t make states do so. Caught between poverty and pressure to curb government’s power, South Carolina illustrates the forces at play in the nation’s capitals amid the broadest changes to the health care system since 1965.
It’s important to realize that THIS is the Republican health care plan. Repeal Obamacare, and simply watch hospitals go belly up as people without insurance and no means to pay use the emergency room as their primary care physician.
Read the whole thing.
