Open Sunday-Night TV Thread: Sherlock Teasers
Since there are people here who might consider this relevant to their interests, an Exclusive from NYMag‘s Vulture blog:
On Monday, the third season of Sherlock will become available for streaming exclusively on Netflix. The service will also stream Sherlock Uncovered, a set of three half-hour making-of specials following each episode, and Unlocking Sherlock, a one-hour behind-the-scenes feature about the making of the series. To mark the occasion, Vulture caught up briefly with executive producer Steven Moffat and his wife, producer Sue Vertue, who told us a rewatch could prove enlightening…
More, including a video clip on casting, at the link.
We’re so old & staid, last night we finally replaced our solitary near-vintage CRT television with a modestly sized flatscreen, so we look forward to a pleasant evening rewatching Cardcaptor Sakura DVDs. Netflix is my substitute for cable, so yes I am planning to (eventually) catch up with the Sherlock excitement…
What are y’all gonna be watching this evening?

Open Thread: Really, Really Toxic
Every time you care what Todd Kincannon says on Twitter, God smites a kitten.

In their frantic attempts to deprive President Obama of his third term, the even-more-rightwing elements of the GOP (Greedy Old Perverts) are once again managing to embarrass the saner members of the tribe. Hat tip to commentor Lamh36 for the RawStory link:
Republicans are outraged that President Barack Obama authorized a prisoner exchange with the Taliban for U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl — who has been held captive since 2009 — and that they plan to use the exchange against Democrats in the upcoming election…
One possible reason the president chose not to notify lawmakers is that last time he attempted to negotiate Sgt. Bergdahl’s release, Republicans both formally and informally blocked all efforts to do so.
In addition to using congressional oversight, special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan Marc Grossman was told by Republican leadership that negotiating an exchange of Sgt. Bergdahl that involved detainees from Guantanamo Bay would be the president’s “Willie Horton moment”…
Retweet (because I’m not going there) of the Kincannon filth-of-the-moment below the fold:

Thanks For Nothing, Mofo

Years of Stupidity
HERE IN BOSTON last week, five airline workers — ground staff at Logan International Airport — were arrested on charges of smuggling nearly half a million dollars of drug money through employee checkpoints, using their credentials to bypass TSA security.
Four of the five were JetBlue employees. One of them, according to the allegations, had agreed to carry a firearm into a secure area of the airport.
I bring this up for no other reason than it so pungently underscores one of airport security’s most ridiculous protocols — namely, the fact that tarmac workers are exempt from TSA screening, while pilots and flight attendants are not.
“Most ridiculous” – that’s a pretty big claim, because there are so many ridiculous rituals that waste person years of time every day. And it will never, ever change. The TSA logo should just be a smiling picture of Osama Bin Laden flipping the bird with the caption “I won, motherfuckers”,
