Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

Bark louder, little dog.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

The revolution will be supervised.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

After roe, women are no longer free.

The GOP couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

It’s time for the GOP to dust off that post-2012 autopsy, completely ignore it, and light the party on fire again.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

Battle won, war still ongoing.

They’re not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

I think I’m old and staid enough to get away with saying that the Obama sisters are growing up into lovely young ladies, and their parents can be very proud.

But not so staid that I can’t enjoy the President’s Rhymes-with-Bucket Tour in progress, per Politico:

Speaking at a Democratic Party fundraiser in Austin, Texas, on Friday evening, President Barack Obama lit into Donald Trump, by turns mocking him for “selling steaks” and ripping his rhetoric— while urging the GOP to take responsibility for creating him.

“So here’s the truth,” Obama began as he defended his economic record against Trump’s criticism. “Look it up. America is pretty darn great right now.”…

Then the president launched into a lengthy series of taunts of his own, blistering the Republican establishment for being “shocked that somebody is fanning anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-Muslim sentiment.”

“How can you be shocked?” he asked. “This is the guy, remember, who was sure that I was born in Kenya. Who just wouldn’t let it go. And all this same Republican establishment, they weren’t saying nothing. As long as it was directed at me, they were fine with it. They thought it was a hoot. Wanted to get his endorsement. And then now, suddenly, we’re shocked that there’s gambling going on in this establishment.”

“What is happening in this primary is just a distillation of what’s been happening inside their party for more than a decade,” Obama said, accusing Republicans of denying “evidence of science” and viewing Democrats as “destroying the country, or treasonous.”…

Let the shrieking commence, but I kinda agree with Paul Waldman, in the Washington Post, on those who critique President Obama’s “stagecraft”:

… The criticism in a case like this tends to be of the third-person variety: whoever’s doing the criticizing says, “I understand why substantively this doesn’t make any difference, but other people are going to look at it and be upset.” But I’m not sure who’s sincerely upset about it.

It isn’t that these accumulated critiques are inaccurate. In many ways it appears that he has indeed stopped bothering with a lot of the things that contemporary presidents spend their time worrying about. Barack Obama isn’t Bill Clinton — working a room, whether it’s full of donors or full of senators, isn’t his idea of a good time. So he’ll go to the fundraisers, because that’s still something with practical importance for his party. But he isn’t going to massage Congressional egos, because at this point it won’t make a bit of difference. He’s enjoyed almost perfect support on legislation from congressional Democrats (and almost perfect opposition from Republicans), and there isn’t going to be any major legislation in his last two years anyway, not with the GOP controlling one and possibly two houses of Congress…

Back when he first ran for president, Obama and his team prided themselves on their ability to see beyond the fury of that day’s news cycle, avoid the distraction of whatever was in Politico that morning, and keep their focus on their long-term goals. That was a central part of the “No Drama Obama” ethos. What’s happening now is in some ways an extension of that perspective. It may be that Obama has decided that it’s no longer possible to affect how most Americans think about him — after nearly six years in office, there’s no clever press strategy that will revive his approval ratings. The only thing that will make a difference is results...

Dear Justices Scalia & Roberts: If You’re Gonna Go Full Godwin, At Least Get Your Facts Straight

by Anne Laurie|  March 1, 201310:38 pm| 125 Comments

This post is in: Activist Judges!, Kiss My Black Ass, Proud to Be A Democrat, Blatant Liars and the Lies They Tell

Via commentor Rikyrah, the Electronic Urban Report quotes HuffPo:

Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) said Friday that he was “absolutely shocked” to hear Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia describe a key piece of the Voting Rights Act, one of the most significant achievements of the civil rights movement, as a “perpetuation of racial entitlement” earlier this week.

“I’m not easily surprised by anything, but that took me to a place I haven’t been in a long time,” Clyburn said of Scalia’s comments, during an interview with HuffPost. “What Justice Scalia said, to me, was, ‘The 15th Amendment of the Constitution ain’t got no concerns for me because I’m white and proud.’”…

Growing up in South Carolina, Clyburn said he “grew almost immune” to the racist comments being made around him. He said he will never forget hearing the late Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.) defending his opposition to the 1957 Civil Rights Act by saying, in Clyburn’s paraphrased words, “Our negroes are pleased with their plight.”…

“When you have in 2012 … states making changes to their laws that you can look on their face and see that these changes will make it harder for minorities to have their votes affect the results that they intend, you say that we don’t need [the Voting Rights Act] anymore? Is this some kind of entitlement?” Clyburn asked. “Well, the Constitution of the U.S. is an entitlement for everybody.”

Via commentor Cacti, Massachusetts’ Secretary of State calls Justice Roberts out in the Boston Globe:

show full post on front page

… “Do you know which state has the worst ratio of white voter turnout to African-American voter turnout?” Roberts asked Donald Verrilli Jr., solicitor general for the Department of Justice, during Wednesday’s arguments.

“I do not know that,” Verrilli answered.

“Massachusetts,” Roberts responded, adding that even Mississippi has a narrower gap.

Roberts later asked if Verrilli knew which state has the greatest disparity in registration. Again, Roberts said it was Massachusetts.

The problem is, Roberts is woefully wrong on those points, according to Massachusetts Secretary of State William F. Galvin, who on Thursday branded Roberts’s assertion a slur and made a declaration of his own. “I’m calling him out,” Galvin said.

Galvin was not alone in his view. Academics and Massachusetts politicians said that Roberts appeared to be misguided. A Supreme Court spokeswoman declined to offer supporting evidence of Roberts’s view, referring a reporter to the court transcript.

On Thursday, Galvin tried to set the record straight. “We have one of the highest voter registrations in the country,” he said, “so this whole effort to make a cheap-shot point at Massachusetts is deceptive.”…

I actually meant to look this up, because Roberts’ assertion sounded like contotionist-level special pleading, but kudos to Galvin for getting out there on his much larger podium!

Dear Lisa Lampanelli:

No matter how many black men you fetishize for fodder for your “comedy” routine, you do not have the right to call Lena Dunham — one of the most privileged white women working in show biz right now — “nigga.” It’s not your word to use or reclaim.

Me with my nigga @lenadunham of @hbogirls – I love this beyotch!! say.ly/oKP5chO

— Lisa Lampanelli (@LisaLampanelli) February 18, 2013

Look, Lisa, I get it.  You’ve fucked a metric ton of black dudes in your day, and somewhere along the way, you got it in your head that you can fuck your way to not being racist. But here’s the thing. You can’t.

Sure, you can tell jokes about your proclivity for black dick. You can make jokes at your own expense about your weight. Apparently you got skinny and now white dudes will fuck you? Is that it? Hooray for you, Lisa.

But when you say shit like this:  “How many ‘hispanics’ does it take to clean a bathroom? None! That’s a nigger’s job!”

And this: “What do you call a black woman who’s had seven abortions? A crime fighter”

You’re not being a “lovable queen of mean.” You’re being a racist asshole.

Sure, you may get some laughs. People laugh at racist assholes all the time. People laugh at inappropriate shit all the time. But you should know that no matter how many people you make laugh, deep down inside you are nothing but a racist asshole. A racist asshole who happens to fuck black dudes, but a racist asshole all the same.

Let me say it again: no matter how many black guys you fuck, you can’t fuck your way out of being racist.

So do us all a favor and knock it the fuck off.

Respectfully yours,

Angry Black Lady

Conservatives Talk Rap Music: Rap Ain’t the Same Since Sir-Mix-A-Lot Quit the Game

This post is in: Kiss My Black Ass

National Review authors Mark Steyn (who hates Big Bird) and Jay Nordlinger (who likes calling Mexicans “wetback”) did a podcast where they discussed the decline of rap music.

Douche One thinks rap music lacks human feeling. Douche Two thinks rap music fell off since Sir Mix-A-Lot quit the game.

Yes, I’m serious.

GOP Discusses Minority Outreach at a Hotel Where a Plantation Used to Be

burwell plantationWhat do you do when your party got trounced by the other side because women and minorities magically showed up to vote against you, and you just can’t figure out how to get them to stop doing that?

If you’re the GOP, you hold a panel on minority outreach in the “Burwell Plantation” conference room at a hotel in Virginia, where Lee Burwell’s actual plantation used to be.

Genius.
