Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

Text STOP to opt out of updates on war plans.

They want us to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Focus. Resist. Oppose.

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Since we are repeating ourselves, let me just say fuck that.

Fear or fury? The choice is ours.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

Let me file that under fuck it.

I have other things to bitch about but those will have to wait.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

Jesus watching the most hateful people claiming to be his followers

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

He wakes up lying, and he lies all day.

These are not very smart people, and things got out of hand.

President Musk and Trump are both poorly raised, coddled 8 year old boys.

You cannot love your country only when you win.

SCOTUS: It’s not “bribery” unless it comes from the Bribery region of France. Otherwise, it’s merely “sparkling malfeasance”.

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

DeSantis transforming Florida into 1930s Germany with gators and theme parks.

“Alexa, change the president.”

Weird Stuff

I honestly have no idea what is causing this, but my computer is now making odd noises for no reason whatsoever. Every now and then there is a piercing cat screech, sometimes there is someone hitting a single key on a piano and singing “meow,” etc.

And no, I am not losing my mind.

So it took a while (most likely due to operator error), and I was up until about 4 am working on things, but I have Windows Seven up and running and I have to say it is really sweet. I don’t know what the lingo is, but I really like the tray at the bottom with your applications.

And btw- don’t forget about Bitsy! We are so very close.

An American Nightmare

Via The Mudflats, the blog that did so much to bring attention to Sarah Palin’s less-than-starburstacular career before William ‘Wrong Again’ Kristol cruised Juneau:

To anticipate your next question, no this is not a joke, or some fabulous Photoshop creation by the Mudflats Art Department (flyinureye). It is in fact the real cover and the real title of a real book that will be in bookstores on November 17, also too.

“Going Rouge is compiled by Richard Kim and Betsy Reed, two top editors of the left-leaning weekly The Nation, and includes essays by Nation regulars like Katrina vanden Heuvel, Naomi Klein, and Katha Pollitt. It’s the first release from OR Books, a fledgling outfit founded earlier this year by publishing veterans John Oakes and Colin Robinson that “embraces progressive change in politics, culture and the way we do business,” according to its website.”

But wait, there’s more! In addition to those listed above, Mudflatters will be able to enjoy essays by Max Blumenthal, Shannyn Moore, and yes,…. yours truly! I was quite honored to be asked to write a piece for the book.

It is a deep, deep disappointment to me that Amazon not only has failed to make this thrilling tome available for pre-order, but when I typed GOING ROUGE into the search bar, they suggested I “meant” that other book, the unintentional parody. I may be dyslexic, Amazon, but I’m not a godsdamned idiot!

EDIT: Meant to credit Valdivia for bringing this to my attention.

And unfortunately WordPress (FYWP) won’t let me ‘fix’ the link:

Because there’s a lot of frustration going around recently. Make stew, not sausage! Take it away, Bad Horse’s Filly:

In honor of the fall colors, it’s time to break out the slowcooker and make a traditional menu. How nice is it to come home from a day’s work or outdoor chores like raking leaves and have a hearty beef stew waiting for you? Add some biscuits and baked apples and you have the perfect fall dinner. On the board tonight:

1)Beef Stew
2)Wheat Biscuits
3)Baked Apples

Never had a problem with Vista, but am about to upgrade to Windows 7. If you don’t hear from me again, you know why. Also, vote for Little Bitsy:

Every vote counts.

After Tunch’s Excellent Adventure (aka John Cole’s Very-Bad-No-Good-Terrible-Horrible Evening), possibly I was just primed to pick up this local news story…

show full post on front page

It is, as they say, developing. But this much I know: All animal control officers and most veterinary facilities, here in Massachusetts, automatically scan “stray” animals for an RIFD chip. Even if the chip isn’t readable, or the registry’s address is out of date, an animal that has a chip is assumed to be (have been) somebody’s pet. In a high-turnover shelter, where unclaimed animals can be euthanized within as little as 24 hours, that may literally be a life-saver.

Here in the high-cost-of-living Boston area, vets charge $25 to $40 to inject the rice-grain-sized microchip between your pet’s shoulder and do the initial registration. Even for cats who never go outside, this seems like a reasonably affordable insurance policy.
