Via Sully, this:
The first thing I thought when I saw that was how long before that is in a movie in a theatre near you. If I had to bet, the Wachowski’s would have loved that for the Matrix.

Via Yglesias, I see this piece from Col. Bacevich:
The burden of identifying and confronting the Bush legacy necessarily falls on Obama. Although for tactical reasons McCain will distance himself from the president’s record, he largely subscribes to the principles informing Bush’s post-9/11 policies. McCain’s determination to stay the course in Iraq expresses his commitment not simply to the ongoing conflict there, but to the ideas that gave rise to that war in the first place. While McCain may differ with the president on certain particulars, his election will affirm the main thrust of Bush’s approach to national security.
The challenge facing Obama is clear: he must go beyond merely pointing out the folly of the Iraq war; he must demonstrate that Iraq represents the truest manifestation of an approach to national security that is fundamentally flawed, thereby helping Americans discern the correct lessons of that misbegotten conflict.
***This is a stiff test, not the work of a speech or two, but of an entire campaign. Whether or not Obama passes the test will determine his fitness for the presidency.
He should have been a General.

Daivd Brooks sure closes ranks fast, doesn’t he? Now that Obama is the nominee, gone are the somewhat interesting columns, and now we can expect a steady drumbeat of anti-Obama BS. Today we get a healthy preview of the coming class warfare as seen by Brooks.
It is how the hive mind works.

Jesse Taylor notices something.

Since honorable military service is all you need to qualify for the White House, and gives you the only experience that matters, we may have a VP for McCain. Randall “Duke” Cunningham:
During his service, Cunningham and his Radar Intercept Officer “Irish” Driscoll became the only Navy aces in the Vietnam War, flying an F-4 Phantom from aboard aircraft carriers, and recording five confirmed kills. He was one of the early graduates of the Navy’s TOPGUN school that taught dogfighting techniques to F-4 Phantom pilots and Radar Intercept Officers (RIOs).
The upsides are tremendous- military service for the milblogger wing of the Republican party, he has a divorce under his belt so the social con/family values wing will embrace him like the other hypocrites they uncritically follow, multiple offensive gaffes so the right-wing wankosphere will get all dreamy about him, and the real upside, he doesn’t even hide the fact that he is a crook, so the business wing of the party will love him. He is the ultimate Republican uniter!
Plus, since he has military service, the media can fall all over him and any criticism of his past can be perceived as a grievous slight against God and man alike. I think this is a total win, plus, he has the right kind of military service, the kind that is unassailable. He has an (R) after his name.
As a side note, I really can not believe the crap Clark is going through for merely pointing out that military service does not make one fit for President (someone alert Admiral Stockdale), and I can not tell you how much it pisses me off to have to defend someone I don’t really like. I think I am going to be bitter and clinging to a drink soon.

I not only rode in and fired an M1A1 Abrams in the Army, but I drove the bitch, too.
Please donate to my Presidential Exploratory Committe via the paypal link, as I clearly have the right stuff.

The McCain mancrush on MSNBC never stops. Just put Clark and Rev. Wright on infinite loop and go to Martha’s Vineyard, you hacks. If I were John Kerry, I would be breaking shit right now.

I don’t care much for Wes Clark, and I am not going to bother trying to explain why, because every time I do it just pisses off those people who like Wes Clark more, but he is getting boned right now by the media. I am watching MSNBC right now and Andrea Mitchell is crapping all over him, and the Obama campaign denounced his remark (for a campaign that promised to fight back, they sure are turning into a bunch ofwimps. Pretty pathetic.), but all the guy did was respond to a question from Bob Schieffer:
SCHIEFFER: Can I just interrupt you? I have to say, Barack Obama hasn’t had any of these experiences either, nor has he ridden in a fighter plane and gotten shot down.
CLARK: I don’t think getting in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to become president.
That is some weak bullshit, acting like Clark was out there spearheading an attack. I watched that yesterday and didn’t think anything of it. Hell, I even blogged about Lieberman’s appearance and didn’t even mention Clark, it was so inconsequential. It wasn’t even really directed at McCain, but more of an attempt at correcting Schieffer.
Ahh, the McCain mancrush. Get used to it though- liberal media and all that. And man, did Dday nail that when he said to “Get Ready For The Mother Of All Hissy Fits.”
So much for not talking about this crap, although in my defense, this was hardly an attack and not what I was talking about. Oh, and new category for this mancrush.

WTF? Did Sully watch the same god damned show I did? And I hate Wes Clark.

Words can not express the joy I am experiencing right now
Some far-right sites that subscribe to the Associated Press feed, for example, will use auto-correct to change “Democratic Party” to “Democrat Party.” This, of course, is because they have the temperament of children.
But the American Family Association’s OneNewsNow website takes the phenomenon one step further with its AP articles. The far-right fundamentalist group replaces the word “gay” in the articles with the word “homosexual.” I’m not entirely sure why, but it seems to make the AFA happy. The group is, after all, pretty far out there.
The problem, of course, is that “gay” does not always mean what the AFA wants it to mean. My friend Kyle reported this morning that sprinter Tyson Gay won the 100 meters at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials over the weekend. The AFA ran the story, but only after the auto-correct had “fixed” the article.
Win!
