But the days grow short when you reach September
Romney just went under 20% in Nate Silver’s election forecast and Mitt’s saying stupid things about how we’re in the early stages of the race.
I’ve been wondering how conservatives react if, as seems likely, all of the following thing happen: (a) Obama wins, (b) Obama wins by a margin that is consistent with what the biased librul media polls were showing, and (c) Obama wins by close to the exact amount that Sam Wang and Nate Silver predict he will the day before the election.
Will conservatives claim that ACORN worked hand-in-hand with the librul media and prognosticators to make sure that Obama won by the exact amount that prognosticators predicted?

Various Things
I never did get to thank Tim F. for the almost decade of posting here. It came out of the blue when he hung up his keys to the joint, and I hope he reconsiders and comes back once he has more time. Even if it is to just post pictures of that beautiful dog of his. Many of you don’t know it, but Tim F. is one of the main reasons the blog is the way it is today. As I was making my slow and long overdue metamorphosis away from the GOP, I decided to give the reins over to someone from a different perspective. Tim F. was a long time commenter who was with the site from the very beginning, even at my wingnuttiest. Now, I don’t know how many of you have started your own project like this website, but I was very hesistant to turn over the keys to anyone. As it turned out, my judgment was better than normal, and Tim was a very valuable addition to this website. He worked out so well that I was happy to allow many others join the site and post their thoughts, opinions, and four letter words. Ironically, Tim has spent seven years trying to lure me to Pittsburgh to go to a Steelers game with him or have some beers, and I resisted. Now, I start to come out of my shell, and Tim bails on me. At any rate, thanks, Tim, and the door is always open if you want to come back.
One of Tim’s earlier endeavors was to bring beerblogging to the site, and to somewhat fill that void, I would recommend you all visit Stace Boschma’s website Brew Like a Girl. They have a whole bunch of things you beer drinkers might enjoy, including tips, secrets, and reviews, so go check it out.
In other news, The Ann Arbor Review of Books, a site put together for independent media criticism by another reader here, is looking for writers. If you are interested in writing, or if you are just interested in another blog, go here.
Finally, my good buddy Bill Hicks (of Jill and Bill or “the Ills” fame), notes that Nate Silver really, really blew it on some climate change posts, and urged me to have all of you read this TP piece rebutting it. One of Bill’s biggest passions (more so than even tequila) is the climate change issue, so please check it out.
That’s it for me. I’m just wiped out.
When Satire Goes Wrong: Paul Ryan is Not Calling Mitt Romney ‘The Stench’
It was fun while it lasted.
Yesterday, Roger Simon wrote an article for Politico in which he stated that Paul Ryan has deemed Mitt Romney “The Stench.” (I wrote about it here.) Today, Simon wants everyone to know that his article was satire:
First of all, I’m not sure why contributors at Politico thinks anyone reads Politico for satire. Leave satire to The Onion and Christwire.
Second of all, when you’re dealing with a candidate as flat-out absurd as Mitt Romney, you can’t expect anyone to understand that your writings in an online political newspaper are satire. If you’re going to try to satirize anything about Mitt Romney, it needs to be palpably clear. In the case of Simon’s article, it wasn’t — at least not to me (and the multiple media outlets that reported it as fact.)
Get it together, Politico.

Mid-week open thread
Only a few more weeks till we’re rid of Stench and the Zombie Eyed Granny Starver.
Anyone notice there’s been NO pushback on the “stench” story? Hmmmm.
You know what to do. Run the score up. And by that I mean push down ticket races too. Elizabeth Warren and Claire McCaskill can use help as well. Personally, I think the Senate could do with more women. Let us know in the comments of any promising Dems running for Congress or any Governorships. Hell, let us know about any interesting ballot initiatives.
The thermometer stands at $55,635 as of 6:16 PM CT. Let’s see if we can’t get it up to $57 K by 6:00 PM tomorrow. Throw the bastards an anvil.
Scott Brown goes for a triple play…
With his attack on Elizabeth Warren over her Native American heritage, Scott Brown is going for a wingnut triple play: he attacked her for claiming a minority heritage, attacked her for collecting unearned privileges because of her minority status and attacked her for being an uppity woman who just doesn’t know her place. It is pure wingnut gold.
I found the image above when I was searching the internets for something else. It is from a book called Ten Little Suffergets. Stephen Gretz wrote about it on the Booktryst blog. When I saw the post it reminded me of Scott.
Rant o’ the Day: Virginia GOP Affiliate Ignores Orders to Remove Racist Obama Imagery from Facebook
Oh, the lengths people will go to excuse outright racism.
A Virginia GOP affiliate thought it would be hilarious to post photos of President Obama as a witch doctor, a caveman, and a thug on the official Mecklenburg County GOP Facebook page. When Virginia Republican Party officials asked the chairman of the committee, a dude named Wallace “Wally” Hudson, to remove the images, Wally laughed and refused.
Why?
Because racism is always hilarious, and if you don’t think so, you should shut up and quit being so goddamn sensitive, that’s why:
RICHMOND — Virginia Republican Party officials on Tuesday ordered their Mecklenburg County affiliate to remove photos portraying President Obama as a witch doctor, a caveman and a thug from its Facebook page.
~snip~
R. Wallace “Wally” Hudson, chairman of the committee, was surprised to hear from a reporter that anyone had taken offense.“If that group is that sensitive, I’m sorry, they’re just not human,” he said, chuckling. “It’s not American. If they’ve got a problem with it, we’re not going to change what we do.”
He didn’t seem any more inclined to take the state party’s feelings into account when told in a subsequent interview what Mullins had said.“They can do what they want,” he said, chuckling again. “I’m waiting for the phone call.”
Note the classic defense against patently racist behavior — “They’re too sensitive.” Such nonsense is always the first refuge of a racist or an asshole defending racist behavior.
The “they’re not human because they’re so sensitive” angle is one that I have not encountered before. Usually we’re not human because we’re black, not because we’re “sensitive.”
But whatever. No one ever said that racism, the behavior of racists, and the behavior of those who defend patently racist behavior was the stuff of intelligent people.
Also note that the perpetrator of this racist bullshit was “surprised” that anyone would take offense. “Whaaa? Whaddya mean it’s offensive? It’s hilaaaaaaarious!”
No. No, it’s not.
