From Puerto Rico, I’ve taken several short vacations in the Virgin Islands. I’ve been once to Tortola, in the British Virgin Islands, and twice each to St. Thomas and St. John in the American Virgin Islands.
My stand out memory on Tortola was scuba diving in an underwater national park. Not being a scuba diver, diving among all those fish inside the ship wreck was unlike anything else I’ve ever experienced. I will always carry memories of that experience. I have no photos of Tortola, so the rest of that trip is pretty much a blur.

This first photo pretty much symbolizes for me the Virgin Island experience for tourists with a generous budget. Hire a boat and float around in paradise with your cares parked in some other reality.

An utterly crushing day for Big Oil
1) Chevron investors demand emission cuts
2) Dutch court tells Shell to cut emissions by half
3) Exxon shareholders buck the company and elect directors demanding climate action.

Climate activist says Royal Dutch Shell ruling will "change the world" https://t.co/WbmGKH5M9J

So just today:
-Shell ordered to cut emissions (though that will be appealed)
-Chevron shareholders direct it to cut emissions.
-Exxon gets at least two climate activists on its board
-Ford announces it's received 70k orders for the Lightning.
-Ford says 40% EV by 2030.— Ben Lefebvre (@bjlefebvre) May 26, 2021
This happened so fast, I didn’t even know about it until this evening. I follow quite a few climate activists, but was offline most of the day. Michael E. Mann called this a tipping point today, and I trust his expertise on it.
I’m glad Anne Laurie covered the Ford F-150 the other day. I’d like to take a deeper dive into it when I have a chance. I am heartened by the advances in technology. I’ve believed for a long time, we have had the ability to solve this crisis for a long time, but what was needed was the economic incentives to make it happen.
This a late evening open thread.

I’m at the airport for the first time in well over a year, and I see a few of the geniuses have decided that they don’t need to wear masks in the common area. Most of them are sitting at tables with a empty drink, looking pleased with their clever selves. I’m following my brother’s advice: he lives in a red state and has kept wearing his mask so he can mouth “fuck you” to all the maskholes.
Anyway, I hope one of these assholes decides to exercise “mah freedum” by pitching a fit on a flight — preferably not mine, but I do have a pretty long layover at my next connection, so I wouldn’t be upset if it happened. Then, after they get kicked off, I’ll wait for the next FAA press release announcing the fine they received. The latest group of yahoos got between $9-15K worth of fines. The $9K fine was for a maskhole who wouldn’t wear a mask, and threw the one that the flight attendant gave him on the ground. The $15K fines are for assaulting a flight attendant, or causing the FA to talk to the pilots — basically anything that interferes with crew duties.
I also look forward to the day that proof of vaccination is required to board an airplane. The bitching, moaning, crying and caterwauling of the “freedum” crowd will be sweet music to my ears on that glorious day.

Looks like we could use an open thread, but I’ve got nothing because I’ve been gardening today.
Can I just say that 85 degrees in full sun and a lot of humidity feels really hot. RFH hot.
Totally open thread.
Update: Just reminder that the zoom with Four Directions is tonight at 7:30. Send me an email RSVP if you haven’t already and you want to attend.

More ad-related testing… trying to determine which ads cause which issues.
Zerg*net ads are the big square boxes that show up after the first post on the front page and at the bottom of the page once you click on an individual post.
Zerg*net ads are now off, and the big banner ad is back. That’s the big one that shows up at the top – above the Balloon Juice log, the balloon man and the rotating tags.
How is the site behaving now?
Thanks for your help with this! I know this is tedious, but we’re trying to get this figured out.
Update: wow! I originally had Zergnet in the title of the post, and after I hit Publish, the thread wouldn’t open on my computer! The error message was something about “content blocker”. Interesting! I changed the title and it still wouldn’t open. I had to change the url to remove zergnet from the URL, and then it opened.
