Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

There are more Russians standing up to Putin than Republicans.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

The press swings at every pitch, we don’t have to.

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

Their shamelessness is their super power.

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

DeSantis transforming Florida into 1930s Germany with gators and theme parks.

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

“Perhaps I should have considered other options.” (head-desk)

People are complicated. Love is not.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

I might just take the rest of the day off and do even more nothing than usual.

A norm that restrains only one side really is not a norm – it is a trap.

Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls 2 years from now.

Today in our ongoing national embarrassment…

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

Dear Washington Post, you are the darkness now.

You come for women, you’re gonna get your ass kicked.

If you voted for Trump, you don’t get to speak about ethics, morals, or rule of law.

Never a Dull Moment

This post is in: Lily, Open Threads

Woke up, walked the dog at about 6 am, her feet got cold, so I picked her up and was carrying her back in when I slipped on the ice. I fell forward, rolled to my right so I would not crush Lily, and the entire brunt of the fall went to my outstretched right arm. My shoulder dislocated and I heard crunching and had immediate excruciating pain. Got up and used a doorknob to pop my shoulder back in, and it kept popping out of joint, sending me into agony each time.

Somehow drove to the ER, got some xrays and a ct scan, and I have basically pulverized my scapula. It is broken in multiple places, so I am heavily sedated and wearing a massive shoulder/arm immobilizer. Surgery next week.

On the upside, I was not naked in the shower with a mop.

How is your day going?

I think I am going Galt for real for a few days.

Bathing My Memory’s Mind in the Wetness Of Its Soul

This makes sense:

At least that’s according to Craig Wolf, the president and CEO of the Wine and Liquor Wholesalers of America, who announced Tuesday that Palin will keynote the group’s annual convention and and expo in Las Vegas in early April.

“Governor Palin is a great supporter of America’s free enterprise system and understands that industries like the beverage alcohol industry play a key role in driving our national economy. We’re proud and honored to welcome her as a speaker,” Wolf said in a statement. “We expect she will share with the convention attendees her analysis of the current political environment and her vision for America’s future.”

Who doesn’t need a drink every time she opens her yap?

RedState Chivalry

This post is in: Excellent Links, Lies, Damned Lies, and Sarah Palin, Assholes, Clown Shoes

Erick Erickson starts his latest post, “I swore I was going to keep my mouth shut on this, but I keep getting emails from people along the lines of “if you don’t say it, who will?” Yeah, I guess I have become that guy.”

And here at Balloon Juice, well…

To further quote Mr. Erickson:

I am afraid Sarah Palin is going to harm herself unintentionally over this tea party convention in Nashville…

Let me be blunt: charging people $500.00 plus the costs of travel and lodging to go to a “National Tea Party Convention” run by a for profit group no one has ever heard of sounds as credible as an email from Nigeria promising me a million bucks if I fork over my bank account number.
…
The tea party movement was always about the unorganized masses of concerned, passionate Americans uniting together with a common voice to protest the direction of the country. From that passion, others have sought to make money off the tea party movement. Some have done it for good. Many have not. And more and more we are seeing some people rise up to claim the mantle of “leader” of the tea party movement. Many of us who have been around for a while just want to know who the heck these so called leaders are.

Even before his massively successful game-changing Narnia-referencing leadership of several dozen Red State Trike Farce Strike Force minions to send rock salt to a Maine Congresswoman just before driveway-clearing season, Erick Erickson was the kind of leader who could organize a super-select registration-limited Red State Gathering…

Tonight, we’ll hear from Roy Blunt, Pat Toomey, Jim DeMint, and Rick Perry. Then we’ll watch a special presentation of John Ziegler’s new movie. Tomorrow, Tom Price, Karen Handel, a super secret special guest, Ken Cuccinelli, Michael Williams, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, and Nikki Haley join us.

We’re also going to do two workshops. One will be on becoming better online activists and the other on being better offline activists.

… and he brought them to Atlanta. In August. For a mere $50!

For some reason, I am reminded of how some people “organize” their university Student Activities Group and a handful of fellow geeks for a couple thousand dollars and the chance to meet the guy who wrote “Trouble with Tribbles”, while other people manage to turn their passionate concern for the underrated genre artforms into something like the San Diego Comic Con. Possibly thirty-plus years as an out and proud geek may have damaged my perspective on other folks’ enthusiasms.

I have been waiting for TBogg’s take on Erick the Red’s new crusade, but it’s still early on the left coast. So I leave you with his masterful commentary upon the 2009 Atlanta event, including the Big Reveal of the super-secret special guest…

Tragic the Gathering Is Go!

Azaria Jagger at Gawker brings us news of the Amazing:

There are few international phenomena more fascinating to the American eye than foreign cultures’ interpretations of us. Obama tends to be the McDonald’s franchise of American presidents, positively interpreted to fit local tastes and aspirations. Vegetarian Big Mac : India :: Obama-themed English lessons : Japan.

And now, Germany does Obama, with jazz fingers…

My personal favorite is the gospel ladies’ duet at 1:55: I am so blessed/And highly favored/I’ll do my best/Girl, don’t you waver!

Best of all, Der Spiegel International Online assures us that “After Frankfurt, it is set to tour Germany and its organizers are currently in talks about a future US tour.”

If you are seeing this, it is because I am still out to dinner and this pre-scheduled thread came up.

I am sure this will fuel rumors that Tunch is actually running the website. That, of course, is absurd, because everyone knows Tunch hates WordPress.

And since I am Tunch is writing this ahead of the time and have no idea what the score is, let me restate how much I hate Dallas.
