TL; DR — machine washing is better than hand-washing at eliminating virus particles.
(Laundry tip: If you don’t already have what used to be called a ‘lingerie bag‘, they’re cheap & widely available, and would IMO protect the elastic loops or cloth ties on your masks from getting tangled up during the spin cycle.)
