The seven pm polls have closed, and Vermont went for Harris, Kentucky and Indiana for Trump.
This is when I am the most fragile on election night because a lot of the red vote from rural areas comes in faster and the infamous red mirage appears. This couple of hours between now and 10 pm est are nerve-wracking.
As many of you know, I have been fostering a cat for three months for a friend of the family who had a mental health crisis, and I have not talked about her (the cat) much or shared a lot of pictures for one simple reason. Here it is:
I knew that if I showed that little angel to you all that you would become absolutely insufferable and demand that I keep her forever, which I could not do because it is not my cat and because I am running at capacity with just enough left for an emergency stray. The picture does not do her eyes justice- they are sometimes half the size of her head they are so big and she is so adorable. And she is so tiny- only 8-10 lbs. Just a precious angel.
At any rate, I gave her to my sister today to keep until our friend has a new place, so I felt it was safe to share the picture with you.
I took an edible and picked up chinese so now all there is to do is sit and wait and stress.

Not fighting snow but equally fighting darkness as in Montana. Nevada polls close at 7 pm pacific/10 pm eastern.
Polls do not close until 8 pm mountain [10 pm eastern].
There is only one satellite office open on a Montana Indian reservation – the Blackfeet Indian Reservation.
We are battling snow and by 5:30 pm mountain {2.5 hours before polls close) – it will be dark.

All of a sudden, Montana — and Senate control — is slipping away from Republicans
We could deploy easily $10k in Montana to combat the snow and darkness.
We can deploy funds as late as 8 pm eastern for last 2 hour shift, adding drivers and callers.
If (when!) that happens, I’ll feel like a fully equal citizen for the first time. I’ll be sad my mom didn’t live to see it but relieved she was spared witnessing Trump’s corrupt destruction of civic norms and traditions.
Oh how the rise of Donald Fucking Trump would have pissed my mother off! Mom was at war with leering, entitled creeps like him all her life.

Which brings me to my second point: friends, if the days ahead go our way, we’ll finally — at long fucking last! — be rid of the Queens Quisling as a dominant force in our politics. Forever. Oh happy fucking day!
I don’t delude myself into thinking when we yeet the man, our problems will end. We all know Trump is a symptom, the logical and yet wholly absurd extension of GOP political trends since Eisenhower.
That’s why a dumb, low-rent fraud like Trump was able to kick over that party’s rotten edifice, turn it into a crude grift engine and sell it off for parts to hostile foreign oligarchs in the first place.
And I’ve accepted that the Trump henchmen, including his heinous grasping offspring, will be with us for the rest of our lives. Closer to home, I’m resigned to the damaged interpersonal relationships and grievous loss of faith in so many people and civic institutions.
But the grotesque carnival barker himself? After enduring THREE goddamn interminable elections with that hideous orange prick braying in our faces like an air horn? If (when!) he loses AGAIN, he will be DONE.
I think you guys know that one of our BJ peeps is on the ground with 3 friends in Nebraska for about 9 days, working for the Dan Osborn campaign.

Harris has run a great, almost flawless campaign.
Walz was a great pick, and win or lose, I can’t see that any of the alternatives would have been better.
She took over the Biden campaign apparatus with very little apparent agida. They’re the A-team and it shows.
Her campaign has quickly seized on Trump’s mis-steps, the garbage comments being the most recent example.
Her social media people are really good, and their impact on the vote via TikTok, Instagram and other outlets that most of us over the age of 40 don’t use is something that will have to be studied by other campaigns.
She was able to campaign with Liz Cheney as well as AOC, and make the most of both of them.
Finally, and most importantly, Kamala, Tim, Doug and Gwen all seemed to be having the times of their lives doing it.
