On The Road – Elma – A week in Tuscany and Umbria
Elma
I came home from a bad day at work and found a brochure from the Wisconsin Alumni Association offering a trip to Italy. I’m so there! The trip was at the end of April and beginning of May 2006. The group stayed in Cortona of literary fame and took day trips including to Florence, Siena and Assisi.

Here are a couple of views from my hotel room.
Be Still My Beating Heart
I had my first moment of doubt yesterday I wondered if Jack Smith made the wrong call in going with the charges in Florida, because I’m pretty sure Cannon is going to fuck with the process again and again, and it enrages me. Apparently the framers of the constitution never imagined that the threat to the republic would be coming from inside the house.
Petulant senators can stop things dead in their tracks for no good reason, and single judges can make ridiculous rulings on ridiculous cases and millions of people have their rights or their benefits or their dignity taken away. (Sorry, I digress, my inner rage is bubbling to the surface.)
But maybe Jack plans to give Cannon enough rope to hang herself and will then the 11th Circuit will step in and force her to recuse?
For now, we are on this bumpy road with Cannon so we just have to take the ride and see what happens.
This, though, lifts my spirits.
What does it usually mean when a grand jury deliberates all day without calling any witnesses? I know, I know! Pick me!
Ok, to alleviate confusion:
THIS grand jury is based out of DC and is deliberating election interference and J6 related charges.
There is a separate grand jury being seated in Fulton County GA, today. They will review the scope of Fani’s charges and vote whether to indict.

So who’s up for some good news today?
I won’t even link to it, but Trump suggesting that the coke in the White House is Joe Biden’s, and then literally saying “we can’t have a crackhead in charge of the nuclear arsenal” is just too much. It would be too funny, if it weren’t so awful, and too sad at the same time. We DID have a crackhead in charge of the nuclear arsenal, and his name was Donald Trump.
Speaking of indictments, I got the Trump documents indictment for my birthday on June 13. (Maybe I need some of that chocolate fudge cake to get me out of this mood?) When I was younger, I used to celebrate birthday month. Today is July 12, the last day of indictment month.
Pretty please may I have another indictment, this time for election interference or Jan 6? I can make enough cake for everyone, if that would help.
I need to get off the rollercoaster ride of hope and frustration. Is anybody up for sharing good political news in the comments?
Open thread.
On The Road – frosty – Suwanee River State Park (5)
frosty
We stopped here on our way across the state to St. Augustine. There were a couple of drenching days of rain, and not a lot to see nearby, so we stayed at the campsite (and inside the trailer as a matter of fact) for most of our time here. I got out for a run along the river one morning and that’s the source of the pictures below.

On The Road – Uncle Ebeneezer – Yucatan Adventure Part 4 (of 8) – Uayma & Espita
Uncle Ebeneezer
When we left Valladolid we were still traumatized by our nightmare experience on the main toll road the first night we arrived. So we decided to take only back roads to Merida. Fortunately the owner of our B&B in Merida gave us a suggestion on a great route that would take us through smaller towns and villages before we hit the big city of Merida.

About fifteen miles outside of Valladolid sits the quiet town of Uayma. It is a tiny little town that used to be part of El Camino Real between Valladolid and Merida. It is famous for its’ convent church.
On The Road – Albatrossity – Serengeti Day 3
Happy Monday. We have a great week ahead! Today we are back in Serengeti with Albatrossity, and then continue on from there with Uncle Eb, slightly out of order as I published #5 after #3. Just trying to see if anyone was paying attention. (Yeah, I’ll go with that.) We visit a lovely state park with frosty, and start what looks to be a fun trip to Italy with Elma. On Friday we are treated to photos from the land of fire and ice, gorgeous as always from Christopher Mathews.
Albatrossity
On our third day in Serengeti National Park we did the regular all-day game drive, then headed to another tent camp at Semutu; here’s a link with a pin placed on the tent that I occupied for the next two nights. This was close to a small river, and seemed to be a prime wildlife viewing area. A pride of lions was hanging out nearby, and Cape Buffalo tracks and dung were quite obvious along the pathways! More about that later.

But the day started with more Black-backed Jackals (Lupulella mesomelas). This lovely couple was very nicely illuminated by the morning sun. Click here for larger image.
Medium Cool – Something Old, Something New
Medium Cool is a weekly series related to popular culture, mostly film, TV, and books, with some music and games thrown in. We hope it’s a welcome break from the anger, hate, and idiocy we see almost daily from the other side in the political sphere.
Arguments welcomed, opinions respected, fools un-suffered. We’re here every Sunday at 7 pm.
Last week I said we would talk about the worst series finales this week, but I wonder if you all got that out of your system last week when we talked about the best ones?
I am in desperate need of a new “treadmill” show. Last week I finished Night Agent, which I thought was really engaging and it kept my interest on the treadmill, so that was awesome. Except for the last 15 minutes! Did the original writer/director/producer disappear with all but the ending done? Seriously it was like they tacked a cheap, lame ending onto a good show. What were they thinking???
Any then I tried the Spenser and Hawk origin story and on my gosh that was a terrible show. I stuck with it – at least there was action and I had nothing to replace it with. I finished that, glad that it was over, marked it “NOT FOR ME” and moved on.
I liked Hawk and this guy, though.
I am watching Treason now on Netflix and it seems pretty good but it’s only 5 episodes and I am already into episode 2. I’m trying to do the treadmill 50 minutes a day, so I run through shows pretty quickly.
Is the new season of jack Ryan out? Is it the last one? What else is good that’s new? For awhile Netflix showed some interesting looking things on the landing page, but of course I was into the show I was watching and didn’t take note of any of them or add them to my list.
So, calling all good shows!
