Bonus Lily Pic

I delivered some new ribbon today, and I forgot to show you the new bow she got (they made it while she was getting treated):

Two other things about this picture- A.) She is on the ottoman on her own- she is jumping again. When she was super sick I had to pick her up.

B.) She’s starting to look a little thicc (by Lily standards). Doctors were super happy about her weight.

And I am telling you, when Lily goes up there the nurses and receptionists just go nuts over her. So do a lot of the people waiting on their pets. I guess they just love how I carry her in like a toddler, and then instead of putting her on the floor she sits on my lap or on the chair next to me while I fill out the weekly paperwork and just crosses her paws and sit there like a lady. When other dogs start acting the fool she just sits there and behaves.

Just the best doggie.

Lily Update

Lily had her weekly chemo appointment today, so I have been pretty much out of the loop today. Lily is still doing super well, all her numbers were good but her platelet count is still high, and we are continuing to ween her off the prednisone and will go down a little more next week. Next week is her last weekly trip, and after that it will be every other week. Here she is right after we got home:

She’s happy and prancing and just doing really, really well. Rosie came over and licked her and greeted her (even though in this pic it looks like she is just trying to dominate her, she was actually grooming her)

Now to address the elephant in the room- “What the fuck is going on in John Cole’s front yard?” Long story short, the yard leveling has begun in earnest. The front yard did not need any additional dirt to level, instead we just plowed it all under with a rototiller and then used a leveling rake to even it all out. We’ve been getting a ton of rain, so we covered it to keep it somewhat dry and are seeding it tomorrow.

The back yard, on the other hand, is a god damned disaster.

I got a local guy to bring 15 tons of “topsoil” over for 200 bucks, and he came over and dumped it outside my fence at seven o’clock in the morning, and when we looked at it, it was half top soil and half fill and clay. It was most certainly not screened topsoil. So we (this is a royal we) put it around and evened out the back yard near the deck and got rid of the major holes and the erosion and slope by the deck, and now we are going to have to till the whole damned thing to break up the clumps, and I will have to go somewhere else to get about 8-10 yards of actual screened topsoil, which I didn’t want to do because it is expensive as hell.

Right now since there is so much clay and clumps, we’re just letting it sit for a while and working on the beds around the fence, which we lifted to cover the bottom of the fence. I’ve got a bunch of hostas to take out of the front beds to put there, and I’ve got friends who are desperate to get rid of stuff like day lilies and the like.

Rule #1 in life- if you think you are getting a super deal, you are probably getting fucked.

Would you look how tall my peas and maters are, though? And the holes in the backyard are gone, so no one (mainly my clumsy half blind ass) is going to break their damned ankle taking the trash out. That’s it for around here.

Also, fuck Trump.

Lily Update and Your Daily Birds

As promised, a Lily update from the doctor yesterday:

“Miss Lily looks very good- she is continuing to gain back weight and other than her platelet count being too high, her labwork looks good. We will drop back on her prednisone and continue to wean this down every other week.”

For those of you wondering, her WBC count was 18.3, NEUT 16.6, HCT 29.2, and her platelet count was near a million. As far as her weight, she was 7.76 KG (17.11 lbs), which is just 2 shy of where she was for most of her life.

On to the birds- it was overcast all day and I could not really get a good picture without the flash, so here you go:

There’s just no room in that nest anymore. And here is a bonus picture of Thurston, relaxing on his preferred roost. I don’t even bother to fix the curtains and the pillow anymore because he just opens them and flattens the pillow to his liking:

And that’s all on the pet front.

Lily Update

Been a while since we had a Lily update, and she is doing remarkably well. She had chemo last Monday, if you remember, and she was a little sluggish on Tuesday and Wednesday, but she came out of it and has just gotten better everyday. She is greeting me at the door again when I get home, I am getting a lot of play bows and her tail is up and waggy, and she prances around and does her little shimmy shake thing she does with her butt when she is happy.

We head back up tomorrow for round 2 and some blood work, and it had been a while since he had a bath, and as always was a perfect angel:

She’s now wrapped up in a towel like a baby and napping on my lap.

I hope we get good news tomorrow at the vet!

Lily Update

I didn’t give you thirsty bastards a picture yesterday, so here you go:

All in all, she is doing quite well. Her gums are salmon pink and healthy, the bruising on her belly from injections and what not has completely healed, she is active (well, the same level of activity she showed before she became ill), sleeping well, and looks comfortable and happy. All the areas where they shaved are slowly growing back, her coat feels good and she is not shedding abnormally, so from an owner’s standpoint she looks pretty good. I don’t know what the oncologist is going to tell us on Monday, but I have my fingers crossed.

Truth be told, I’m hella more traumatized than she is, because she has no idea what is going on. For her, she was fine, then she was not fine, then she went some place and they did weird things to her and then she started to feel fine again, and now she is back home and the human won’t stop looking at her with that very attentive look and god damn I am hungry all the time. And since we have no idea how long she was actually sick, she probably feels better than she has in a while.

She’s still eating like a damned horse, and I can tell that she is a pound or two heavier than when I took her home and her ass feels less boney and her ribs are showing some meat on them. Yesterday she had an omelet with cheese, two cans of chicken, a can of unsalted sardines in water, and some treats. I’ve basically been feeding her anytime whenever she wants it. Need to fatten her up and we don’t want her flying into a roid rage.

Overall, the hardest part for me is remembering the difference between her normal level of lazy and the lethargy she showed prior to her hospital visit. But she seems normal, and I am just cherishing every moment together.
