This post is in: Democratic Politics, Open Threads, Politics, Proud to Be A Democrat

First, I want to thank everyone who shared something good in last night’s Turning This Around thread.   I read some last night and was able to get some sleep, and I read the rest this morning.

Can I also say that it struck me that there were a lot more contributions than back and forth between people, but please know that a ton of people read and appreciated every positive thing that was shared.  If no one replies it can feel like no one noticed what you wrote, but I am certain that was absolutely not the case in that thread in particular.

Wondering if we can do something similar, yet quite different, tonight.

I have a challenge for us all:  in this thread tonight, can we talk about things that individual Dems are doing right?  Without bashing other Dems for comparison while we do it?  And not critique the things mentioned by others?  If you disagree, then shake your head and write about some Democrat that is doing something that you think is great.  If you think no Democrat is doing anything great, then this probably isn’t the thread for you.

I’ll start.

I LOVE this ad, and I LOVE what I’m seeing from my Governor Pritzker.

Musk-y Open Thread: Watch Out for Those Cybertruck Burrito Taxis

“bought a used Cybertruck” feels like it tells you a lot about a person

— post malone ergo propter malone (@proptermalone.bsky.social) August 10, 2025 at 3:28 PM

… According to new data from the auto marketplace CarGurus, the average price of a used Cybertruck has plunged a staggering 30.35% in the last year, now hovering around $84,027. This dizzying drop for what was once one of the most anticipated vehicles in history is a major blow for Musk, confirming that the Cybertruck has failed to find a mainstream audience…

The Cybertruck’s failure is the leading edge of a much larger problem for the company. The same CarGurus data reveals that used Tesla prices as a whole have now plummeted below the average for the entire U.S. used car market.

As of early August, the average price for all used vehicles in the U.S. was $28,048. The average price of a used Tesla was just $27,852, down a steep 14% year-over-year. This is a shocking development for a brand that has always commanded a premium price, especially since the market average includes budget cars. It shows a fundamental imbalance: a growing number of owners are looking to offload their Teslas, but fewer buyers are willing to step in.

The damage is brand-wide. The average used price of a Model S is down nearly 23% year-over-year. The Model X luxury SUV is down almost 16%. Even the Model Y, the world’s best-selling electric vehicle, has seen its used price drop nearly 12%…

EVs do depreciate faster but one commenter says Tesla won't even take cyber trucks as tradeins. Way to stand by your product.

Cybertrucks are burrito taxis now

— Bobby Big Wheel (@kleinman.bsky.social) August 10, 2025 at 9:54 PM

“Burrito taxi” defined as the cheapest possible barely-roadworthy vehicle, sufficient for subminimum wage contract work for food delivery services like Doordash. It became an online meme during the pandemic, when privileged stay-at-home workers complained about the ‘outrageous’ markup on meals delivered: ‘You say you’re in favor of increasing the minimum wage, but not if it boosts prices for your burrito’s private taxi!’

Tesla Diner Drops Most Menu Options And Cuts Hours Just Weeks After Opening, Surprising No One

Wonder if Los Angeles delivery services can bring homebodies a Tesla burger? No more ‘Epic Bacon’…

show full post on front page

The Tesla Diner opened its doors at 4:20 p.m. on July 21, and attendees almost immediately reported how miserable of an experience it was. From obscenely long lines to flying umbrellas that smacked guests on the forehead to sold-out items, the diner was an instant site of drama, and also the site of regular anti-Elon Musk protests. Now, as reported by Eater, the diner has dropped most of the initial items from the menu, and what was once touted as a 24-hour eatery now limits that privilege to Tesla and other EV owners charging their cars only between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m…

As per Tesla’s website, the menu has dwindled down to just a burger, three sandwiches, a hot dog, fries, a cup of chili, a slice of pecan pie, and drinks. The initial advertising for “all day breakfast” has also gone away, so breakfast is only available in the morning now. Other casualties include the so-called “Epic Bacon,” the market salad, the veggie burger, the club sandwich, and the biscuits and gravy.

Tesla Diner celebrity chef Eric Greenspan told Eater that the menu was scaled down due to unprecedented demand, which is hilarious considering any demand is unprecedented for a brand new restaurant, whether it’s a single diner or 1,000. Greenspan also said that the menu would be ever-evolving, a good excuse for what will surely be more menu revisions in the future…

*****
But seriously…

If you, regular person, did anything like this after a fatal car accident, you would be prosecuted for a variety of crimes, including insurance fraud.
If you then repeatedly lied to the courts about it, like Tesla did, you'd get prosecuted for that too, plus stiff monetary sanctions.

— Max Kennerly (@maxkennerly.bsky.social) August 4, 2025 at 1:08 PM

… Last week, a jury found Tesla partially liable for a wrongful death involving a crash on Autopilot. I explained the case in the verdict in this article and video.

But we now have access to the trial transcripts, which confirm that Tesla was extremely misleading in its attempt to place all the blame on the driver.

The company went as far as to actively withhold critical evidence that explained Autopilot’s performance around the crash.

Within about three minutes of the crash, the Model S uploaded a “collision snapshot”—video, CAN‑bus streams, EDR data, etc.—to Tesla’s servers, the “Mothership”, and received an acknowledgement. The vehicle then deleted its local copy, resulting in Tesla being the only entity having access.

What ensued were years of battle to get Tesla to acknowledge that this collision snapshot exists and is relevant to the case.

The police repeatedly attempted to obtain the data from the collision snapshot, but Tesla led the authorities and the plaintiffs on a lengthy journey of deception and misdirection that spanned years…

===

The most damning part: The car was programmed to send all the information to Tesla then delete the local copies. Which speaks to a clear conspiracy to hide the fact that "driver assistance" features contributed to an accident #teslatakedown electrek.co/2025/08/04/t…

Tesla is awarding CEO Elon Musk 96 million shares of restricted stock valued at approximately $29 billion, just six months after a judge ordered the company to revoke his massive pay package.

— The Associated Press (@apnews.com) August 4, 2025 at 10:00 AM

Like any successful snake oil salesman, Musk has already collected his grift and moved on (Tesla’s now a *Texas* corporation!):

… In giving its billionaire CEO 96 million in restricted shares, the electric car company noted that Musk hasn’t been paid in years because his 2018 compensation package has been rejected by a Delaware court. The award comes eight months after a judge revoked the 2018 pay package a second time. Tesla has appealed the ruling.

Tesla on Monday called the grant a “first step, good faith” way of retaining Musk and keeping him focused, citing his leadership of SpaceX, xAI and other companies. Musk said recently that he needed more shares and control so he couldn’t be ousted by shareholder activists…

Tesla shares have plunged 25% this year largely due to blowback over Musk’s affiliation with President Donald Trump. But Tesla also faces intensifying competition from both the big Detroit automakers, and from China.

In its most recent quarter, Tesla reported that quarterly profits plunged from $1.39 billion to $409 million. Revenue also fell and the company fell short of even the lowered expectations on Wall Street…

War for Ukraine Day 1,266: The Baltics Issue a Warning from Experience

Ukraine has already defined its main strategic interests that it plans to defend in any negotiations with Russia.

In 2022, Putin vowed to “liberate Donbas.” The US now floats Kyiv ceding part of Donbas to stop Russia’s southern offensive.

— WarTranslated (Dmitri) (@wartranslated.bsky.social) August 13, 2025 at 2:45 PM

From Politico Europe:

KYIV — Ukraine’s nightmare is that U.S. President Donald Trump will use Friday’s summit with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to style himself as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize by forcing through a war settlement that sells out Kyiv.

That’s why Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and key European allies will use a pre-summit meeting with Trump on Wednesday to map out red lines they hope will deter Putin from using an accord with Trump as an opportunity to regroup and press on with his core objective — not the seizure of a bit of eastern Ukraine but rather the destruction of an independent, democratic Ukrainian state.

“We understand the Russians’ intention to try to deceive America — we will not allow this,” Zelenskyy said earlier this week.

In addition to what promise to be bitter debates over the continued illegal occupation of Ukrainian land by Russian forces, Kyiv will want to ensure that Moscow pays for the hundreds of billions of dollars-worth of destruction it has wreaked and returns 20,000 abducted children, along with prisoners of war.

Chiefly, Ukraine wants a deal that has meaningful security guarantees and doesn’t simply allow Trump and Putin to team up on reintegrating Russia into the global economy. That would only allow Putin to strengthen Russia for renewed offensives.

The mood is Kyiv is skeptical about what will emerge from Alaska.

“I don’t expect any breakthrough from this summit. Putin did not abandon his ultimate goal to destroy Ukraine. He can only agree to a ceasefire that will create the conditions for our destruction,” said Oleksandr Merezhko, head of the foreign relations committee in the Ukrainian parliament.

“In the case of Trump and his diplomacy, it’s all for the sake of the picture … A spectacle for the media, like the meeting with [North Korean leader] Kim Jong Un. But for Putin, this meeting means a lot, as it shows him as the leader of a great state with its political interests, not an international pariah he should have been, as he has not abandoned his desire to destroy Ukraine’s statehood,” Merezhko added.

During his 2022 speech announcing the invasion of Ukraine, Putin said one of his key goals was to “liberate Donbas from the Kyiv regime” — as well as to “demilitarize and denazify” the country. The American side is floating the idea that Ukraine should give up the eastern territory of Donbas in exchange for Putin stopping his troops from further occupation of southern Ukraine.

Trump himself is suggesting that peace requires “land swapping.”

Ukraine’s stance is that it will not make any concession over its borders as guaranteed by international law and its own constitution.

“We support what President Trump wanted — a ceasefire, and then sit down at the negotiating table and talk about everything else,” Zelenskyy told reporters on Tuesday.

Ukraine sees membership in NATO and European Union as the only long-term way of stopping another Russian attack.

“Will we be in NATO? In the EU? I haven’t heard anything — simply not a single proposal that would guarantee that a new war won’t start tomorrow,” Zelenskyy said. “We need security guarantees that will preserve, first of all, our state, a sovereign state, our independence.”

President Zelenskyy traveled to Germany to meet with Chancellor Merz today. There is not a daily address, but he did hold a joint press conference with Chancellor Merz.

Zelenskyy: “I told President Trump and all our European allies that Putin is bluffing. He’s trying to push before the Alaska meeting on all directions of the front. Russia wants to occupy the whole of Ukraine. This is his wish … he does not want peace.”

Statement by the President of Ukraine at a Joint Press Conference with the Federal Chancellor of Germany

13 August 2025 – 19:05

Thank you very much, Friedrich.

Thank you, Germany, for the invitation.

Today, the Chancellor and I are working in four formats. The first is our bilateral track – thank you – covering all the points we discussed regarding our bilateral relations. We are very grateful to Germany for such a substantial contribution to assistance, to strengthening our state and our security, for bolstering our air defense, and for the support from the very beginning of this war. We deeply appreciate it.

Then we worked at the level of European leaders. The third track was a conversation with the President of the United States of America. And we will conclude, after the press conference, with our format on future security – the security infrastructure for our state – namely, the Coalition of the Willing.

First of all, I want to thank all our partners for supporting Ukraine. Today, we spoke with President Trump, President von der Leyen, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, President Stubb, President of France Emmanuel Macron, President of the Council of Ministers of Italy Meloni, and the President of Poland. Since last Wednesday, there have been very intensive communications – dozens of them – among all of us: between European leaders, between Europe and the United States of America, between us and representatives of other parts of the world who seek only one thing – peace in Ukraine, peace in Europe. Today, we discussed our joint positions with the President of the United States of America. Before that, as I mentioned, there was a coordination call.

We agreed on joint principles – five principles mentioned by Friedrich. I want to thank you, Friedrich, for your leadership in this direction.

Namely: the format of negotiations – everything concerning Ukraine must be discussed exclusively with Ukraine. We need to prepare a trilateral format of talks. There must be a ceasefire – number one. There must be security guarantees – truly reliable ones. And today, by the way, President Trump voiced his support for this and the United States’ readiness to take part. Among the agreed principles is also that Russia cannot have veto power over Ukraine’s European and NATO prospects. And peace talks should be combined with proper pressure on Russia. Sanctions must be strengthened if Russia does not agree to a ceasefire in Alaska. These are effective principles. It is important that they work.

Of course, we discussed the situation on the battlefield today. I told the President of the United States of America and all our European colleagues: “Putin is bluffing.” He is trying to exert pressure ahead of the meeting in Alaska on all sectors of the Ukrainian front. Russia is attempting to portray itself as capable of occupying all of Ukraine. That is undoubtedly what they want.

Putin is also bluffing when pretending that sanctions are not important to him and ineffective. In reality, sanctions are extremely helpful and hit the Russian war economy hard. Yes, it is true that Russia has several times more weapons – including artillery, three times as much – and the like, but it also suffers three times as many losses. And that is a fact.

I told my colleagues – the President of the United States and our European friends – that Putin certainly has no intention of making peace; he wants to occupy our country. And we all truly understand this. Putin will not be able to deceive anyone. We need continued pressure for the sake of peace – through not only American sanctions, but also European ones. And together, our alliance of partners can truly stop Putin’s war.

We talked about the meeting in Alaska. We hope that the central topic of the meeting will be a ceasefire – an immediate ceasefire – as the President of the United States of America has repeatedly stated. He suggested to me that after the meeting in Alaska we have a conversation to discuss all the results – if there are any – and to determine our next joint steps.

Now we will have a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing for peace and security. This is truly our goal. This is what we are working for. Thank you to everyone who helps us! Thank you again, Friedrich!

Glory to Ukraine!

The Baltics:

Op-ed and warning from the foreign ministers of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia: “The Baltic nations know what ‘only de facto’ Russian occupation means — and that ‘temporary’ can last half a century.”
www.ft.com/content/7c57…

— Christopher Miller (@christopherjm.ft.com) August 13, 2025 at 12:02 PM

From The Financial Times:

The writers are the foreign ministers of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia

As the critical US-Russia summit in Alaska approaches, speculation about a possible territorial “swap” between Ukraine and Russia is surfacing. There have been claims that the occupation of parts of Ukraine would be “temporary” and only “de facto”, leaving hope for their return to Ukraine in the future. History warns us to think twice. The Baltic nations know what “only de facto” Russian occupation means — and that “temporary” can last half a century.

In 1939, Stalin and Hitler agreed to divide Europe under the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. Following that notorious deal, Soviet forces occupied and annexed Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania in 1940, carrying out mass killings and deportations. The Nazi occupation in 1941 brought another wave of repression and the Holocaust. And reconquest by Soviet troops in 1944 brought further bloodshed and terror to Baltic soil.

Many western nations never formally recognised the Soviet annexation of the Baltics, thanks in part to the principled stance of the US. But for the 6mn Baltic citizens who lived through it, international legal nuances offered no protection from daily horror.

Over 25,000 people were killed in the underground resistance, more than 200,000 were deported to Siberia to starve in Soviet concentration camps and nearly 150,000 were forced to relocate to neighbouring communist countries. Some 43,000 children were abducted from the Baltic states; many grew up without knowing their origins. As the Red Army returned in 1944, more than 300,000 Baltic citizens were forced into immediate exile. Those who stayed endured aggressive Russification, mass in-migration and oppressive state control over education, work and private life. Even 35 years after independence was restored, the scars remain.

Currently, 6mn Ukrainian citizens live under Russian occupation in the regions Russia has seized by force. Those who have escaped report torture, imprisonment, mass surveillance, propaganda and other cruelties reminiscent of the Soviet past. According to official records, thousands of Ukrainian children have been abducted and are now fostered by Russian families and in institutions that erode their identity and damage their mental health. Thousands of prisoners of war and civilian detainees face daily torture and degrading treatment. And the mass graves in Bucha and Irpin reveal mass murder has been used as the ultimate instrument of intimidation and control by Russian occupying forces.

Today, nearly 300,000 civilians still live in the areas of the Donetsk region under Ukrainian control, and about 1mn remain in those parts of the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions where the Ukrainian flag still flies freely. The Baltic case offers a clear lesson: once Russia gains control, the cost of reversing it may be measured in decades of human suffering. “Temporary” occupation is not a holding pattern; it is a programme of systematic destruction of identity, freedom and life itself.

From NATO:

Germany announced today (13 August 2025) that it will fund a $500 million package of military equipment and munitions for Ukraine sourced from the United States, under NATO’s new Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte welcomed the announcement as a strong demonstration of Germany’s enduring commitment to Ukraine’s defence.

“I commend Germany for stepping up once again. This delivery will help Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression,” said the Secretary General. “Germany is the largest European contributor of military aid to Ukraine, and today’s announcement further underlines its commitment to help the Ukrainian people defend their freedom and sovereignty,” he added.

Germany’s contribution under the PURL initiative follows earlier announcements by the Netherlands, and a joint pledge from Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Each package is valued at around $500 million, and is designed to meet Ukraine’s most urgent operational requirements with equipment and munitions sourced from U.S. stockpiles.

As I noted on Bluesky, don’t worry about the bird flying over the chicks at the end of the clip. It gave me quite a turn because I mistook it for a hawk come to pick off a fuzzy duckling at first. But it was a hapless Common Gallinule instead. It ran away as soon as it landed and saw the furious parent.

Not sure how I feel about this. I mean, I definitely want California, New York, Illinois, etc., to redraw their maps. We have no choice since the Trump Party is openly rigging the next election so they can snuff out U.S. democracy and complete the country’s transformation into a right-wing kleptocracy.

But I am so goddamn sick of how the sloshing orange bag of liposuction clinic medical waste has debased our politics and degraded the discourse. And imitating his grandiose bullshit tone seems like another slide down the slope of Shit Mountain.

But you know what? Fuck it. Whatever works. This is who we are now. Maybe this is who we always were.

President Zelenskyy ruled out retreat from Donbas.

He added that, for Russians, Donbas is a staging ground for a new offensive. If the Ukrainian Armed Forces were to leave, either voluntarily or under pressure, it could be the start of a third war.

Peace Can Only Be Lasting with Ukraine’s Participation in Preparing the Relevant Decisions – Address by the President

12 August 2025 – 19:55

I wish you health, fellow Ukrainians!

A brief summary of today. We continue communication with our partners – for common positions, strong positions. I spoke with President Erdoğan. It was a good conversation – as always, with very well-placed emphases. I am grateful for the support of our independence, our territorial integrity, and our people. And most importantly – for supporting the position that peace can only be lasting with Ukraine’s participation in preparing the relevant decisions. I would also like to note Türkiye’s participation in our Coalition of the Willing – this is important, and we count on Türkiye’s active involvement in bringing real peace and real security closer.

I also spoke with the President of Romania and the Prime Minister of the Netherlands. There is a principled stance from European leaders – a clear statement by the European Union, 26 countries, all with us – in diplomatic work and in principled positions. It is clear who the twenty-seventh is, always against everything, just to be uniquely “against.” Still, we are in contact with everyone, presenting our arguments to all. Tomorrow, we will continue our work with the United States and with our European colleagues. Today, I also spoke with the Amir of Qatar – I thanked him for his help in securing the release of our children who had been abducted by Russia. Those are extraordinary mediation efforts – hundreds of children have been brought back. I informed him about all our conversations with partners and about possible next steps.

Today, I also held a meeting with our diplomatic team – the Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We are preparing certain steps to further mobilize our partners. I want to specifically highlight our agreements with the Netherlands – one of the leaders in supporting Ukraine in Europe – and we are preparing additional measures that will strengthen us. In particular, this concerns drones.

Today, our military delivered reports about the frontline – especially Dobropillia, Pokrovsk direction. Steps have been taken there to correct the situation, and I am grateful to every unit and every one of our warriors who are now destroying the occupier. Positions in the Kharkiv region, positions in Zaporizhzhia, positions in the Sumy region – everywhere we are doing our best to provide Ukraine with exactly the kind of defense it needs.

And one more thing. There was a meeting with government officials – the Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance, and the Minister of Education. I instructed them to take several steps that could support our people – to support and give young Ukrainians genuinely greater opportunities to be here, to stay in Ukraine, to study here, and to build their future here – despite everything. We will increase scholarships starting from the new budget year. We will also simplify the admission requirements for Ukrainian higher education institutions, with government officials working in particular on the winter admission campaign. In addition, we will change the border-crossing rules so that this will be possible for young men aged 18–22. The aim is for more people to study here and for young Ukrainians who, for various reasons, are abroad to find it easier to maintain their ties with Ukraine. I thank everyone who stands with us, who stands with our state! I thank each and every one who fights for Ukraine, who works for Ukraine – for the state and the people. And I thank everyone who helps us.

Glory to Ukraine!

President Zelenskyy also addressed the attendees at the Ukrainian Youth Forum today.

President Instructed the Government to Ease Border Crossing for Youth, Simplify University Admission Requirements, and Increase Scholarships Next Year

12 August 2025 – 20:05

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has instructed the government to simplify university admission requirements and border crossing procedures for young people, as well as to raise student scholarships starting next year. The Head of State announced this during a meeting with participants of the Ukrainian Youth Forum held to mark Youth Day.

The President congratulated the youth on the holiday, noting that when a country has millions of young people, that nation is alive and will continue to live.

“We are fighting for our state, for a sovereign Ukrainian state. Ukrainians are fighting, Ukrainians are working for defense so that the Ukrainian people can live a normal, safe, and peaceful life. Most importantly – on their own land. So that you, our young people, young generations, all those for whom Ukraine must and will be home, can do so,” the President stressed.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the warriors, all those who have chosen to live, study, and work in their homeland, as well as those who, under any circumstances, maintain their connection with Ukraine.

The President said that in the morning he had spoken with Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko, Minister of Finance Sergii Marchenko, Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi, the Office team, and the military. The state will take tangible steps to support young people.

First and foremost, this concerns admission to higher education institutions during wartime and under many difficult conditions. The Head of State instructed the government to simplify the admission process.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also instructed the Cabinet of Ministers, together with the military command, to explore the possibility of easing border crossing for young Ukrainians. The President proposed increasing the age of men allowed to travel abroad during martial law to 22. This will help many preserve their ties with Ukraine and pursue education, primarily in their home country.

An agreement has been reached with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance to work on increasing scholarships for all students starting next year. In addition, the state will now expand support for those who achieve significant academic results.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also highlighted those who engage young people in various security programs and personally participate in them.

The President presented state awards to young people who distinguished themselves while defending Ukraine in the ranks of the Defense Forces: the Orders of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, 3rd Class; the Orders “For Courage,” 2nd and 3rd Class; the Orders of Princess Olga, 3rd Class; and the Orders of Danylo Halytskyi. Awards were also given to those who have contributed to various areas of public life and have conscientiously fulfilled their professional duties.

In addition, Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed with forum participants work with Ukrainian youth in the temporarily occupied territories, multiple citizenship, and diplomatic efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace.

“Negotiations are in any case important at the level of leaders. But talking about Ukraine without Ukraine is impossible. Therefore, the conversation between U.S. President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin may certainly be important for their bilateral track, but they cannot decide anything about Ukraine without us,” the Head of State emphasized.

From The Financial Times:

The Trump administration has played down expectations of a peace deal at Friday’s summit between the US and Russian presidents, saying Ukraine would have to be party to any agreement.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Donald Trump’s meeting with Vladimir Putin would be a “listening exercise”, and that there was no particular outcome that Washington could predict.

“The goal of this meeting is to walk away with a better understanding of how we can end this war,” she said.

“This bilateral meeting is a bilateral meeting between one party in this two party war, right? You need both countries to agree to a deal,” Leavitt added.

She confirmed that Trump would be travelling to Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city, and there would be a “one-on-one” meeting between the US president and Putin, but did not offer further details of the summit.

The White House’s comments come amid broad concerns in Ukraine and across Europe that Trump will clinch an agreement on Russia’s terms that will be unacceptable to Kyiv.Back to Ukraine.

When asked about Russia’s interest in expanding the talks to a broader discussion about easing bilateral tensions with the US, Leavitt answered: “This conversation is focused on ending the war in Ukraine, as far as the president’s perspective goes.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told journalists in Kyiv on Tuesday that he believed separate meetings with the US and Russian presidents would be necessary to begin the peace process.

“We need to have three meetings — two bilateral, one trilateral. And probably, after the trilateral one, we will get a result,” he said.

More at the link.

The reality is that once Putin and Trump start the one on one bilat, anything will be possible. We saw how that went in Helsinki during Trump’s first term.

This is the most heartwarming news I’ve seen over the last days.

If you look at the map around Pokrovsk, you may finally see why I’ve long been worried, about both the city and the trajectory of the war. Talk of big enemy losses, forecasts of economic collapse, or claims I’m “too negative” won’t change it. Change starts by seeing problems
