This is about cashing in on the wingnut gravy train:
Ms. Davis’s decision on Tuesday to refuse licenses to same-sex couples led to the contempt hearing, and she testified that she had not hesitated to maintain her opposition to licensing same-sex couples.
“I didn’t have to think about it,” Ms. Davis said. “There was no choice there.”
But after seeing their boss jailed, most of Ms. Davis’s deputy clerks said Thursday that they were willing to break from her demands and comply with Judge Bunning’s order, even if they did so with deep reluctance.
“I don’t really want to, but I will follow the law,” one deputy, Melissa Thompson, told the judge. “I’m a preacher’s daughter, and this is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life.”
***Judge Bunning, however, said from the bench that he believed fining Ms. Davis would “not bring about the desired result of compliance.”
With Ms. Davis jailed, the agreements by her deputy clerks left gay and straight couples poised to receive marriage licenses in the county for the first time in months.
“We’re going to the courthouse tomorrow to get our marriage license; we’re very excited about that,” said April Miller, who sued after she and her partner were denied a license. “We’re saddened by the fact that Ms. Davis has been incarcerated. We look forward to tomorrow; as a couple, it will be a very important day in our lives.”
A lawyer for the couples, William Sharp, said Thursday’s ruling demonstrated that “religious liberty is not a sword with which government, through its employees, may impose particular religious beliefs on others.”
She’s not even going to succeed in preventing gay marriages with this horseshit. Not only is she a failure as a human being, a failure at her job, but she’s failing to accomplish the one things she wants that- to be a successful bigot.

The Kentucky clerk who has been in the news for refusing to do her goddamn job issue marriage licenses because she’s convinced equal marriage makes Jeebus frown has been taken into custody for contempt of court. Serial wife and wholly unqualified dispenser of sanctimony on the topic of marriage Kim Davis will have plenty of uninterrupted time to peruse her Bible, so maybe she’ll discover the verses about judging not and rendering unto Caesar, etc. Praise the Lord!

A county clerk in Kentucky who has invoked “God’s authority” and is defying the U.S. Supreme Court by refusing to license same-sex marriage has been summoned along with her entire staff to explain to a federal judge why she should not face stiff fines or jail time.
U.S. District Judge David Bunning moved swiftly Tuesday after a lesbian couple asked him to find Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis in contempt. Davis told several couples and a crowd of supporters and protesters that her religious beliefs prevent her from sanctioning gay marriage, and then retreated again, closing her office door and blinds to the raucous scene outside.
The U.S. Supreme Court declined to intervene Monday night, leaving Davis no legal ground for her continued refusal Tuesday morning. Lawyers for the two gay couples who originally sued her asked the judge Tuesday to find her in contempt, but punish her with only financial penalties, not jail time.
“Since Defendant Davis continues to collect compensation from the Commonwealth for duties she fails to perform,” they asked Bunning to “impose financial penalties sufficiently serious and increasingly onerous” to compel her immediate compliance without delay.
Her ass needs to be in jail being fined daily until she is fired and replaced. Fine the damned county into bankruptcy until she is shitcanned. This is like a scene out of the recent HBO show Show Me a Hero.
I am so sick and tired of these backwards ass bigots masquerading as Jesus whisperers. God didn’t order you to do shit you inbred hick.

Ben Carson on the real battleground for the Republican War On Something To Do With Women:
“They tell you that there’s a war on women,” he said. “There is no war on women. There may be a war on what’s inside of women, but there is no war on women in this country.” [via Raw Story, w. a h/t to TPM]
I’m so glad that’s clear. Ladies: you’re alright. Your ladybits, not so much.
Carson, I may remind you, is running second in recent GOP presidential primary polling.

The saga of Rowan County, Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis continues, as now the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals has denied to step in on her behalf and stop a lower court judge’s ruling requiring her to issue marriage licenses again. Davis isn’t budging and continues to ignore the courts.
Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis has refused to issue any marriage licenses, citing her Christian faith and constitutional right to religious freedom, since the landmark decision in June.
On Thursday morning, a deputy clerk in her office refused to issue a marriage license to William Smith Jr. and James Yates. It was their third attempt to get a license.
They said they will not give up.
“They just don’t like gay people, they don’t want us to get married,” Yates said. “And they’d rather burn the earth and not let straight people in Rowan County get married either.”
The action Thursday came just a day after a federal appeals court upheld a ruling ordering the clerk in rural Rowan County to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
U.S. District Judge David Bunning had already ordered Davis to issue marriage licenses two weeks ago. He later delayed that ruling until Aug. 31 or until the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals issued a ruling. The appeals court did so on Wednesday, denying Davis’ appeal.
But a deputy clerk in Davis’ office told Smith and Yates on Thursday that the office believes Bunning’s delay remains in effect until Aug. 31. He refused to give his name or give them a license.
Davis, meanwhile, sat in her office with the door closed. She talked on the phone, ignoring the commotion as the couples, trailed by activists and reporters, poured in through the door and demanded answers.
So now things get interesting, as Rowan County isn’t the only county refusing to play ball here.
Casey Davis, the elected Casey County clerk, spoke earlier this week to West Virginia radio host Tom Roten about his refusal to follow the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges because it violated his Christian beliefs, reported Right Wing Watch.
The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday slapped down the latest challenge filed by the Rowan county clerk, with help and encouragement from the conservative Liberty Counsel, ruling that county clerks are obligated to follow the law and not their personal beliefs.
Davis disagrees, saying his religious beliefs are more important than U.S. or state law.
“When you stand for what’s right and when you tell someone of the danger that they are in, and I think that when a person lives a lifestyle of sin whether it’s homosexuality or drunkenness or drug addiction or adultery or thievery or any kind of sin that you continue in or live in, you are endangering yourself of spending eternity in Hell,” Davis said. “So in my view of what the Bible says, when you’re truly loving someone, you stand and you lovingly tell them, ‘This is not the way to Heaven, this is not the way of right.’”
So the world’s dumbest standoff featuring the world’s dumbest people continues here in my backyard because FREEDOM and EAGLE and MURICA and frankly until Gov. Beshear actually decides to do something about it, these assholes aren’t going to do their jobs.

In the Josh Duggar post yesterday, redshirt said:
I know this story!
He cries and begs forgiveness from Jesus for his sins and the Holly Rollers forget these horrible lies from the LIBERAL MEDIA click here to donate!
Later that day, on the Duggar family blog:
Statement from Josh Duggar:
I have been the biggest hypocrite ever. While espousing faith and family values, I have been unfaithful to my wife.
I am so ashamed of the double life that I have been living and am grieved for the hurt, pain and disgrace my sin has caused my wife and family, and most of all Jesus and all those who profess faith in Him.
I have brought hurt and a reproach to my family, close friends and the fans of our show with my actions.
The last few years, while publicly stating I was fighting against immorality in our country I was hiding my own personal failures.
As I am learning the hard way, we have the freedom to choose our actions, but we do not get to choose our consequences. I deeply regret all the hurt I have caused so many by being such a bad example.
I humbly ask for your forgiveness. Please pray for my precious wife Anna and our family during this time.
This is the “cries and begs forgiveness part” of redshirt’s prediction. The “lieberal media” and “send us fat stacks” part will come in a few days.
Also, too: “biggest hypocrite ever” – do any of these assholes have even a shred of modesty? “Super-Jesus-y bedroom policeman who cheats on his wife” is the most trite, common and predictable brand of penny-ante hypocrisy around.
