Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

Dear legacy media: you are not here to influence outcomes and policies you find desirable.

Lick the third rail, it tastes like chocolate!

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

She said I know what it’s like to be dead

DEAD PEOPLE VOTED is probably my favorite stupid right-wing meme.

Austen Fletcher, a former Ivy League football player turned right-wing internet journalist, said in videos posted to Twitter that he had discovered registration documents on a State of Michigan website that showed that four people with reported birth dates from 1900 to 1902 had submitted absentee ballots ahead of Tuesday’s election. “How long has this been going on?” he asked.

[…]

In one case, a 74-year-old woman in Hamlin Township, Mich., had asked for an absentee ballot for the first time in years, setting off a notice from the state’s digital voter rolls that her birth date was not on file, according to Catherine Lewis, the town’s clerk. The system had assigned the woman the default birth date: 01/01/01, or Jan. 1, 1901.

[….]

Then, on Thursday morning, after a marathon week for Ms. Lewis running the town’s vote, her phone began ringing. “I have had 18 calls and at least 20 strange emails asking me if I committed voter fraud,” she said. She was staying home with her family. “I need to be concerned about my family’s welfare,” she said.

Fuck all these clowns claiming voter fraud. They will all rot in hell. So we’ve got that going for us.

Let’s fight for Georgia. There are lots of things you can do.

Open Thread: Just Because We Are Staying Home Doesn’t Mean We Can’t Have Good Food

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, next to 4th of July. Food, family, friends…and leftovers. I compiled some favorite recipes here. Unfortunately this year, it will be a socially distant and quiet affair. No way am I traveling to see family, much as I would love to.

That doesn’t mean we can’t have good food. I’m pulling some more of my favorites this week and will post here as I do. Some I’ll update with instant pot versions.

This is a good start:

JefferyW makes Cornbread Stuffing,  part 1 here and part 2 here.

Roasted Butternut Apple Soup makes a great starter, recipe here.

I think I’m going to volunteer for mashed potato duty this year so I can make these again, a lost recipe found, Hearty Garlic Mashed Potatoes, link here. I made them years ago and then completely forgot about the recipe.

And this recipe is the reason I think I get invited to many holiday gatherings, my Cranberry Upside Down Cake, click here.

Every year my brother deep fries a turkey. I’m going to miss that. I have a real fear of deep-frying anything, which is why all the deep-fried recipes on my blog are from JeffreyW. I will still cook a turkey though, because, leftovers.

Not sure how you want to cook your turkey this year? I’ve listed some ideas from people smarter than I am: turkey four different ways, here.

Acceptance Level: Unlocked

Well, here it is:

Acceptance Level Unlocked

I edited out all the whiny lies. (You’re welcome.) But this is progress of a sort — the only concession this repulsive crybaby is ever likely to make. For the next 65 days, this egomaniacal wretch will do everything in his power to foment division and delegitimize the incoming administration.

There’s no way Trump sticks around the White House on January 20th to greet his successor and attend the inauguration as honor compels real presidents to do, no matter how hard fought the race. He’ll probably demand that all the toadies boycott the inauguration too.

In a way, good riddance — who wants those puling babies around stinking up the event with their loaded diapers? But Trump is playing a dangerous game with the country, and for no other reason than malice and spite. Fuck that guy.

Now, I’m off to continue binge-watching the latest season of The Crown.

Late Night Anti-Social Media Open Thread: Who Funds Parler?

WSJ: Hedge fund investor Robert Mercer and his daughter Rebekah Mercer are financially backing the social media company Parler.

The Mercers previously financed a number of conservative causes, and have not disclosed their involvement with Parlerhttps://t.co/uRW6Ili87F

— Hamza Shaban (@hshaban) November 14, 2020

“Interesting“, as far as it goes, which probably isn’t far enough. I can’t see most of the article, because I’m not gonna buy an exorbitantly expensive Wall Street Journal subscription for pap like this:

As Facebook Inc . and Twitter Inc . have taken a harder line against unsubstantiated claims of a stolen presidential election, prominent conservatives on both platforms have responded with anger and a frequent retort: Follow me on Parler.

Launched in 2018, the libertarian-leaning social network was the most downloaded app on both Android and Apple devices for most of last week, according to data from Google and analytics firm App Annie. Its leaders envision it as a free-speech-focused alternative to the giants of Silicon Valley.

The platform also has some deep-pocketed investors. Rebekah Mercer, daughter of hedge-fund investor Robert Mercer, is among the company’s financial backers, according to people familiar with the matter. The Mercers have previously financed a number of conservative causes…

ICYMI (as you probably did, what with all the more pressing news out there), this breathless scoop comes hard on the heels of a widely circulated twitter thread…

What The Fuck is Wrong With People

What The Fuck is Wrong With People

We’re gonna blast past 200k before we even get to Thanksgiving. If I were God emperor, I would lock everyone down, issue mask mandates, and mount speakers every 100 yards playing this nonstop until people didn’t want to leave the fucking house:

Meanwhile, from the no shit department:

US coronavirus cases will spike after Thanksgiving, further stressing health care systems and prompting new restrictions, an emergency physician said Saturday.

Meanwhile, states continue to report soaring numbers of new cases, hospitalizations and deaths, and several governors have already announced measures to try to gain control before winter.

Dr. James Phillips, chief of disaster medicine at George Washington University Hospital, told CNN’s Erica Hill he is “terrified” about what’s going to happen this holiday season.

“We’re going to see an unprecedented surge of cases following Thanksgiving this year, and if people don’t learn from Thanksgiving, we’re going to see it after Christmas as well,” Phillips said.

I laugh cried at the “if people don’t learn” part. The most American thing in the world is NEVER FUCKING LEARNING ANYTHING EVER.

The worst thing about this is that Trump’s followers are literally a cult. Anything he says or does they mindlessly repeat and replicate. If that motherfucker would just have asked his followers to wear a fucking mask we wouldn’t be in half the mess we are in right now.
