Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Keep the Immigrants and deport the fascists!

Every decision we make has lots of baggage with it, known or unknown.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

It’s possible to be a liberal firebrand without crapping on the party.

It’s a good piece. click on over. but then come back!!

In after Baud. Damn.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

You would normally have to try pretty hard to self-incriminate this badly.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

They want us to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Focus. Resist. Oppose.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

Fear and negativity are contagious, but so is courage!

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

After dobbs, women are no longer free.

the 10% who apparently lack object permanence

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

All hail the time of the bunny!

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Disagreements are healthy; personal attacks are not.

The Constant Pants Shitting Gets a Little Old

The Constant Pants Shitting Gets a Little Old

I’m at the gym and the Fox Chyron said something about Axelrod speculating about replacing Biden.WTF is wrong with these supposed political professionals?  Apparently there are also others but I sure can’t be bothered to find them, though a better person would mark their names down for eternity as unable to manage a campaign for dogcatcher, much less President of the United States.  (Sorry, just remembered that Jon Lovett was one of them on last night’s PSA – which made me lose some respect for him.)

I stand by my post last night saying that Biden didn’t have a great debate.  But it’s a far reach from that to consider replacing him.  The logistics alone are insurmountable, nevermind that Biden’s the best choice for the party and the country even if he had a bad night.  Plus, it’s his decision, not fucking David Axelrod or Ezra Klein or any other wanker.  (I’ve said my piece about this when Ezra brought it up a few months ago, here and here. But, in the words of a great philosopher, “I’ve said it once before and it bears repeating now.”)

Have these people just lost the plot?  Are they so far up the rectums of the DC press that they don’t know the smell of shit when it exits their useless pieholes?  What is their major malfunction?

Also, I posted this on Bluesky last night in response to some poor person who was doing a little post-debate pants shitting, but it’s about as serious as one should be about replacing Biden (i.e., not at all serious):

The Constant Pants Shitting Gets a Little Old 1

If people are living in a fucking fantasy world, treat them as such and move on.  We have an election to win.

A Little Respite: Another New Balloon-Juice Kitten Arrival

by TaMara|  June 28, 20242:00 pm| 54 Comments

This post is in: Cat Blogging, Make The World A Better Place, Nature & Respite, Pet Blogging, We All Need A Little Kindness

HumboldtBlue teased in a couple of posts that he had a meet-cute set up with a tuxedo kitten. She was adorable, but as is the way with the cat distribution system, that is not the kitten he came home with because he was chosen and he could not refuse.  Meet by Noodles. And what a match it is. From HumboldtBlue:

A Little Respite: Another New Balloon-Juice Kitten Arrival

Well, what a wonderful 24 hours it’s been. Noodles is a little 3-pound whirlwind of energy and non-stop movement right up until the moment it’s time for a nap, and then he just folds himself up on my chest with a series of chirps, peeps and little meows and dozes off. We’ve had a ton of fun chasing the feather and the ball on the stick, and he’s all kitten, with plenty of bristling hair and hunchback side jumps while I continually laugh at his little bow-legged back legs as he scampers across the floor.

A Little Respite: Another New Balloon-Juice Kitten Arrival 1

I went to the clinic expecting to meet Cosmo, the little girl, and I did, but they also brought in Noodles (they were calling him Holland but after what the Oranje [Dutch men’s national soccer team] did in the Euros that name was never gonna stick) and from the first moment he was on my leg, scampering around and behind me while Cosmo pretty much ignored me. It became clear pretty quickly he and I were gonna be pals. I spent 40 minutes with him and then signed the foster-to-adoption paperwork (he gets neutered in two weeks) and then we got in the car and headed home. Not before a stop at the local vet to pick up some toys and food supplies, and when we got to the apartment he settled in immediately.

A Little Respite: Another New Balloon-Juice Kitten Arrival 2

He was litter box trained and used mine without trouble after I showed him where it was. He spent an hour exploring every nook and cranny of the apartment he could, squeaking and peeping and just having a blast while I exhorted him on, all the while grinning like a fool at how &%$#@#@ adorable he is and just how cute a little furry three-pound2222222222222222222wq (that was him standing on the keyboard) kitten can be. He just crashed after an hour or so of play, so I am down to one-handed typing again, but so far he couldn’t be more perfect. We are just two swinging bachelors chilling in the bachelor pad and this is the start of a wonderful friendship. I can’t stop grinning at him.

[[[TaMara here: We even get some adorable video!]]]

Aaahhh, kittens. They are so cute so you don’t disown them when they wake you up at 4 am because they think that’s the best time for pets, or dump over the kitty oat grass and dig out all the dirt, spreading it all over the kitchen. Not that I’m speaking from experience or anything.

Speaking of cute friends, this happened here a month ago, if you haven’t already seen it:

Tell me that Elk isn’t playing with those kids. He/she is clearly tossing that ball back to his new friends. And the boys behave appropriately – they keep their distance and when they toss the ball back, they toss it away from their elk friend, so as not to spook.

Speaking of nature – there are two different bears running around within the city limits. I feel like I’m on the wrong side of town for a visit, but my house is near a major waterway, which is usually how they navigate busy locations.

Moving on and doing the work – funding one future leader for the Worker Power Leadership School!

Moving on and doing the work – that’s what will get us the outcome we want in November.  So let’s send our student to Leadership School and move on to the next group that needs our support to do something great.

We have $250 left on yesterday’s Angel match, but Andrew re-upped with a mother thousand.  So we are calling this a NEW Angel Match for $1,250, and everything resets with a new Angel match.

Matching up to $150 per person, up to the $1,250 total.

Can we get to $10,000 today?

If we can get to $10,000 before the clock strikes midnight tonight, another angel will add $500 to the thermometer.

Teamwork!

Supreme Court Decisions Again Today at 10 am ET (June 26 Edition) & Open Thread

If you want to follow along on SCOTUSblog.

I’ll copy the short summaries as each one shows up on their website.

Here we go!

In City of Grant Pass v. Johnson, the court rules that “camping ban” laws restricting the homeless from sleeping on public property do not constitute “cruel and unusual punishment” and are therefore not prohibited by the Eighth Amendment.

Sotomayor writes the dissent:

“I remain hopeful that someday in the near future, this Court will play its role in safeguarding constitutional liberties for the most vulnerable among us. Because the Court today abdicates that role, I respectfully dissent.

OPINION:  6-3  rating (bad)

The court overrules its 1984 decision in Chevron v. Natural Resources Defense Council, which held that courts should defer to an agency’s reasonable interpretation of an ambiguous statute. In Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, the court rules 6-3 that courts may not defer to an agency interpretation of the law simply because a statute is ambiguous.

OPINION:  6-3  rating (fuck, this is really bad)

(Clay Bennett via GoComics.com)

After watching the debate, keeping up with the CNN, Guardian, and Washington Post liveblogs, reading all your comments on my posts (and MisterMix’s and the Blogfather’s), and skimming a chunk of twitter… well, all the smart money said in advance that it wouldn’t change anyone’s mind, and so far it hasn’t. There’s a lot of triumphalism from the GOP, entirely too much rending of garments among the professional Democratic ‘operatives’, and an awareness among the normies that we’ve got four more months of hard work ahead of us.

My personal analogy is that the debate dumped a big, very badly made quilt of lies, over-information, and missed chances on stage. It’s up to us, during the next days weeks & months, to pick that quilt apart and re-use the best bits to create our own narrative quilt. And there is lots of material in those 90 minutes where TFG shows all his worst behavior, while Biden defends Truth, Justice, and the American way. Seam rippers at the ready!

And, as always: Sharing is caring!

All that criticism has only made her more SHARP & PRECISE. Her time is NOW!

Biden: He’s just a liar. They are going to be out there fact checking all of the things that he said. I cannot think of one thing he said that was true. pic.twitter.com/5l2VyBmYZA
