So I have been wondering about some things and would love to hear your thoughts.
It occurred to me recently to think that /wonder if Democrats are generally better informed than Republicans.
It seems to me that the more actively you are engaged with the wider world around you, the more likely you would be to see through lies and misinformation. And yes, maybe when you’re actively engaged that makes you smarter, since good information rarely reaches you in a bubble. Since lies and deliberate misinformation overwhelming come from those who support Rs, it would seem that the less engaged you are with the wider world, the more likely you would be to get taken in.
If we pretend for a moment that that is true, then how do we even reach those people who are gullible enough to taking in all the lies and disinformation as truth?
I would guess that it would need to reach them in a more passive way, like radio and billboards and ads on public transportation.
Also, I don’t know how you help people to become more discerning, which I think is a kind of cousin to street smarts, and you can’t teach street smarts. You either have them or you don’t.
Discerning
A discerning person is someone with keen insight and good judgment, able to recognize subtle differences, make intelligent decisions, and see beyond the surface, often described as having good taste or being perceptive, critical, and wise. They can distinguish quality from mediocrity in things like art, food, or people, showing an ability to judge what is good and bad.
