Quick housekeeping notes: 1) I’ll deal with the Canadian kerfuffle tomorrow night. 2) If you are posting copy and paste from news reporting in the comments, please include a link. 3) For those observing Yom Kippur this evening have an easy fast. 4) For those wondering why some evangelical minister/prophet announced the Rapture was going to happen between Rosh HaShana and Yom Kipper, the reason is that the initial prophecy of the Rapture was made by Reverend Miller in the Burned Over district of upstate New York in the 1830s. Miller, who led the Millerite sect of made in America (early evangelicalism) had determined through a careful counting of generations in the Jewish Scriptures (Old Testament) that the Rapture would occur on Yom Kippur in, if I’m recalling correctly, 1834. It didn’t happen, he made a correction and it was supposed to happen the following year. It didn’t happen again, he shifted gears, and declared it was a spiritual not physical Rapture and the physical Rapture was yet to come. Those of his congregation and followers – then known as the Millerites – who stuck with him eventually evolved into the Seventh Day Adventists. So the Rapture happening around Yom Kippur was woven into made in America evangelical Protestantism at its start.
