Trump, who labeled Comey as 'cowardly' this AM, won't go to the UK on a state visit if there are large protests. https://t.co/aBagPlcxQL

If he's waiting until the British public welcomes his visit (as he says) it's going to be a VERY long wait.

You must be soooo proud, Repubs.
Apart from [facepalm]-ing, what’s on the agenda as we wrap up the weekend?
Pretty much the only countries Trump can visit comfortably are ones where they disappear protesters. https://t.co/kEmixf0Uon

Based on my emails this morning, the transmission of the anti-Comey line has been extremely successful. Trump pushback working with base.

Nixon's pushback worked with Nixon's base, too. https://t.co/JmpFWTD0lW

Once you realize that "deep state" is code for "the rule of law," you can translate their jibberish into something more like English https://t.co/w2dM1JskHg

Administrations frequently, on background, share such info themselves to create narrative about the conduct of their team. Process stories.

Most coverage of Comey’s testimony last week focused on the former director repeatedly calling the president a liar and the liar-in-chief’s subsequent efforts to retaliate and obfuscate. But we shouldn’t forget Comey’s remarks about Russian interference in the U.S. election:
HEINRICH: The president has repeatedly talked about the Russian investigation into the U.S. — or Russia’s involvement in the U.S. Election cycle as a hoax and fake news. Can you talk a little bit about what you saw as FBI director and, obviously, only the parts that you can share in this setting that demonstrate how serious this action actually was and why there was an investigation in the first place?
COMEY: Yes, sir. There should be no fuzz on this whatsoever. The Russians interfered in our election during the 2016 cycle. They did with purpose. They did it with sophistication. They did it with overwhelming technical efforts. It was an active measures campaign driven from the top of that government. There is no fuzz on that. It is a high confidence judgment of the entire intelligence community and the members of this committee have seen the intelligence. It’s not a close call. That happened. That’s about as unfake as you can possibly get. It is very, very serious, which is why it’s so refreshing to see a bipartisan focus on that. This is about America, not about a particular party.
I don’t share Comey’s optimism about a “bipartisan focus” on this issue. Trump refuses to believe the Russians had anything to do with his election because he perceives it would diminish his glorious Electoral College victory.
Most Republicans in congress aren’t outright denying that Russia interfered yet, but they are downplaying it, even the so-called Russia hawks like Lil’ Marco. If the evolving view on Fox News and elected Republicans’ own spineless behavior in the past are leading indicators, the party will soon officially join Trump on De Nile river cruise.
That’s why the appointment of a special counselor, while a good first step, isn’t sufficient. We need an independent commission that is accountable to the public to explore the interference issue and develop a set of conclusions and an action plan for preventing future activities that undermine our democracy.

This is the headline of a dumb think piece in the Post about Reality Winner, who leaked some NSA documents to the Intercept. I’m not linking to it – you can find it easily with teh Google – because I’m sick of millennial bashing for clicks.
I am usually, by far, the oldest person in the room at work meetings. Most of my colleagues are “millennials”, which is to say, they are young. Some of them, on occasion, make the same mistakes that I made when I was their age. As a group, however, they seem no worse and probably better than most generations. One indicator of them being a decent generation is that they seem to tolerate the condescending, ill-informed and even baldly stupid “what millennials don’t understand” discussions that occasionally crop up.
Young people sometimes do stupid things, not because the current generation of youngs is worse than any other, but because youth plus humanity often yields stupidity. Reality Winner had none of the encumbrances of age (family, kids, etc.), she probably had the righteousness of youth (which leads to many good things in addition to some stupid ones), and she didn’t follow directions in part (I’m guessing) to the feeling of invincibility that accompanies being young. She was also dumb enough to choose a media outlet that is apparently clueless about protecting sources. It’s a tale as old as time, not a new development plaguing the current generation of youngs.

From commentor Japa21:
We concentrate on container gardens, but they were just planted and haven’t really reached their potential yet. However, we also have roses and what we call our purple garden. The latter is nice because we have plants that bloom at different times. Currently our false indigo is in all its glory as is the clematis and a few others. Later, we’ll have, among our variety, some gorgeous purple coneflowers.
44 years ago, when I proposed to my wife, I promised her a rose garden. It took a few years but I did fulfill my promise. These pictures represent 3 of 8 roses we have growing.
I did miss the opportunity to send pictures of our peonies, but maybe next year.
***********
Here in New England, two of the rose bushes I put into pots last year survived through the winter even though somebody defaulted on his promise to make room for them in the garage. Since one of them was in a 16″ self-watering planter, I celebrated by ordering another half-dozen similar pots, and enough roses to fill them plus the bare spots in the front beds. Of course, the roses arrived Friday, we had other commitments Saturday, and today the temperature is supposed to reach the mid-90s…
What’s going on in your garden(s), this week?
