Four current and former Louisville officers are facing federal charges in connection with the fatal police shooting of Breonna Taylor — including excessive force, falsifying information on the search warrant and staging a coverup, Attorney General Merrick Garland announced Thursday.
Kelly Goodlett and Joshua Jaynes are accused of falsifying information on a search warrant before and after Taylor, 26, was killed in March 2020, sparking a wave of racial justice protests across the country. Garland said that the officers not only violated Taylor’s Fourth Amendment rights but also knew the falsification would lead to a dangerous situation — one that “resulted in Ms. Taylor’s death.” The attorney general said Goodlett and Jaynes allegedly met in a garage after the killing and conspired to lie to investigators about the circumstances that led to it.
[…]Former police officer Brett Hankison is charged with two counts of deprivation of rights under color of law. He is accused of willfully using unconstitutional force for firing 10 shots through Taylor’s patio door during the raid. Hankison faced three state charges of wanton endangerment for firing those shots without a clear target, but was acquitted at trial in March.

No More Mixed Feelings
Sometimes it takes a real idiot going overboard to clarify things. Whether you agree with the DCCC’s strategy in Peter Meijer’s district, the ad they ran on behalf of his opponent did not abandon principles. It simply said that Gibbs was too conservative for the district, and provided examples. (If you think the DCCC did a bad thing, and you haven’t watched the ad, watch it.) As for Saint Peter Meijer, he’s falling in line, as predictably as any other Republican:
I think Tollefson forgot a “yet” at the end of that last sentence.
Democrats engaging in the mildest of rat intercourse makes DC fools like McMegan run for an Ativan drip, since the party of the adults in the room is supposed to bend the knee for a Republican who did his fucking job, once. Fuck that noise, and get used to Democrats fighting, I say. So, I’ve decided that I don’t have a big problem with the Gibbs ads, and I hope they propel Hillary Scholten to a victory in MI-3. I frankly don’t know if they worked in any case, because Michigan Republicans seem able to choose election-denying Trump-endorsed wackaloons like Tudor Dixon with no help from us.

For some reason I’m on Dr Oz’s mailing list. Compared to the deft, relentless and imaginative Fetterman campaign, here’s how Dr. Oz communicates with his best contributors:
Dr. Oz is in a strong position to return the U.S. Senate to Republican control in 2022! Why must that happen? Skyrocketing inflation, an illegal alien invasion, rampant crime, a weakened military, record high gas prices, and out-of-control spending of your hard-earned money. That’s what Joe Biden and his Congress have given us in two years. All of America is looking to Pennsylvania, as this is one of the most important Senate races in the nation!
I can almost smell the hangover sweat of the intern who cranked out that uninspiring prose.
The rinky-dink outlook.com email address attached to a $2-5K solicitation is as laughable as the notion that someone would spend $2-5K to meet this rich asshole.
The mailing was sent by “Americans for Freedom,” headquartered in Naples, FL, but the solicitation says that checks should be payable to the Oz campaign, so Americans for Freedom are fundraising contractors. This was sent to my “real” email address, which I used once to contribute to a Democrat running for Senate somewhere. I do all my donating on a different email address now. So it’s a shit email, for a shit event, sent to a shit list.
The whole thing reeks of what would happen if a lazy, rich grifter decided to run a vanity campaign and delegated the hard work to people with no skin in the game. Above all, it is absolutely no fun. The Fettermans are having fun with their campaign. This guy isn’t.

REDWOODS
One of the excursions Steve took me on was to the Montgomery Woods State Natural Reserve, a forty-minute drive from his house on twisty mountain roads. Most of the pictures in this set were taken either at the Reserve or along the way.

My great-great-grandfather, Samuel Nelson Woodruff (called “Nelson”), traveled from Ohio to Oregon in a covered wagon in 1852, when he was twenty-three years old. Being from a family of scribblers, he kept a diary, wrote letters home, and sent articles about his travels to his hometown newspaper.
Nelson’s father, Jonathan, would gather the family and read Nelson’s letters out loud. One day he came upon a passage that said: “I’ve seen tree trunks that climb a hundred feet before they branch.”
Family lore says that Jonathan stopped reading, set the letter down, and announced, as disappointed as only a father could be, “Nelson . . . has taken to lying.”
Nelson got married and had three children in Oregon. He and his wife were eventually divorced, after which he headed back to Ohio, married again, and had six more children. His grave is in the rural village where I loved spending time with my grandma when I was a kid.

Dog Blogging: Need Your Thoughts
Meet this beautiful boy. He’s 6. and he’s extremely underweight, even after three weeks of being in good hands.
But look at that happy face. Despite all he’s been through, he’s happy, engaging and sweet.
Such a handsome boy. He’s in a great foster home right now, and I finally got to meet him today. He is soooo TALL. And so thin. He weighs only as much as Trixie does at 9 months – 106 lbs. He should easily be around 150 – 160.
And here’s what I need to talk through – the pros and cons of adopting him. I mean, if I let my heart lead, he would have come home with me today. But my brain kicked in and I do know I need to really think this through. There are serious things to consider.
The pros (I mean, besides the fact he’s a sweet, handsome boy)
He’s extremely good-natured and despite being neglected, he was never abused
He and Scout did well together (he hasn’t met Trixie, but she loves everyone)
He’s very laid back and happy to just have couch time
According to his vet visit, his teeth are perfect (which is amazing for his overall condition)
My two pups are so easy going, a third easy-going Dane is doable (I’ve had three before and as long as they are laid back, it’s not as hard as it sounds, LOL).
The serious considerations that are giving me pause:
The cats – he’s good with cats, but do my cats really want another beast stealing their attention
He’s going to have food issues the rest of his life, which means making some serious changes here if he lives with us
Future health issues. We won’t know until he puts some muscle back on, if his hips/knees are bad or just weak.
Financial considerations if he does have serious issues going forward, because I do have to make sure I can give all the critters good care, too.
And finally, the general disruption of a house that all works together pretty seamlessly with everyone knowing their place in the pack and everyone getting along.
======
I worry that at 6 and with a questionable history, he will have a difficult time getting adopted. Especially when the rescue is full of puppies right now (no exaggeration, they are having a discount on puppies this weekend, they have so many).
I know that here, if he has just a year or another six in him, he’ll be healthy, happy and loved and I have experience dealing with Danes with stability issues (two of my rescues had Wobblers, a degenerative nerve issue, usually genetic). And I’m equipped to handle the inevitable to-soon loss.
I’m a little stumped at my inability to make a decision here – usually I just know – but with him, I’ve been vacillating between, “of course he’ll live here, and it will be fine” and “what the fuck are you thinking”
Talk this out with me! Tell me I’m nuts or that I should go get him on Sunday. Or just ooo and aaaah at his handsomeness.
