Sunday Morning Garden Chat: Springtime in Seattle

Sunday Morning Garden Chat: Springtime in Seattle

Figured we could use some shade-blessed pictures, while so many of us are under the heat dome (special treat at the end). From professional landscape artist Dan B:

I’ve sent pictures of the garden at my partner’s house before. It was summer. Here’s Spring. It’s my garden in part because I designed it, supervised the major grading, and then the rock walls, pond, paving, and planting. This was done in 2000 and 2001.

Top photo: This entry side of the house was sloping lawn and a chunk of rockery. There was no privacy for the dining room / breakfast table and the living room. The dwarf trees don’t look so dwarf now.

There was a deck between the house and garage. It’s great for parties and there are many good spots in the garden when the weather is good.
Sunday Morning Garden Chat: Springtime in Seattle 1

This area was two feet underground and sloped so no one would stand on it. We had a BJ Meet-up here on a hot day last summer.
Sunday Morning Garden Chat: Springtime in Seattle 2

Looking the other direction. This is at basement level where the master bedroom and another bedroom are located. Now there are French doors to the garden. The far end is at the former grade. The rusty table is a welders table from Boeing surplus. (It didn’t fall off a plane.)
Sunday Morning Garden Chat: Springtime in Seattle 3

This is a mass of Evergreen Maidenhair Fern at the far end of the path. I bought a four inch pot of this at a rare plant sale. This patch must be worth a few hundred dollars.

Not good places, mind you… but her seven-figure donation to RFK Jr’s campaign bought her a bigger audience, and by Grabthar’s Hammer she’s gonna take full advantage of the spotlight!

War for Ukraine Day 850: The Butcher’s Bill from this Morning’s Attack

Painting by NEIVANMADE. It has a white background an in the center are Soldiers in green doing air defense by firing at incoming Russian missiles in the upper right. The missiles are red and yellow. In the upper left, written in green, is the text: "SAVE THE BRAVEST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD!" Below the Soldiers, also written in green, is "SUPPORT FOR KHARKIV"

Quick housekeeping note: Rosie is still doing fine. Thank you all for the good thoughts, well wishes, prayers, and donations.

As I start writing tonight’s update, at 8:00 PM EDT/3:01 AM in Ukraine, air raid alerts are up over Kharkiv and Donetsk Oblasts.

Here’s the butcher’s bill from this morning’s attacks on Ukraine:

As a result, Polish and allied fighter aircraft were once again scrambled, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces said. “This night was very tense for the entire Polish air defence system, as a Russian large-scale missile attack covered the entire territory of…

Russia then hit Kharkiv again today:

The number of wounded due to a Russian missile strike in a civilian area of Kharkiv Ukraine has hit 57. At least two dead. Horrific images emerging of the destruction. In one video of an incoming missile, no air raid sirens could be heard pic.twitter.com/RuLpsJmOin

Russian terrorists have struck Kharkiv with guided aerial bombs again. Unfortunately, a residential building was hit.

The debris is being cleared. All necessary services are on the scene. As of now, there are 19 wounded and 3 dead. My condolences to everyone who lost their loved ones.

This Russian terror with guided aerial bombs must and can be stopped. Bold decisions from our partners are needed so that we can destroy Russian terrorists and Russian combat aircraft where they are.

We have already proved that it is possible to protect people’s lives from missile terror, particularly by clearing the border areas of terrorist launchers. Protection against bombs is required as well. We need this determination.

I thank everyone who helps Ukraine protect lives!

Here is President Zelenskyy’s address from earlier today. Video below, English transcript after the jump.

God damnit I wrote a bunch of shit and it all got wiped out. FYWP.

Had a nice day, visited sister, ate Mediterranean, too hot, watching House of Dragon. That will have to do- I’m not rewriting what I wrote. Trust me when I say it was fucking brilliant.

Very different approaches… So, President Biden is working with his trained staff and other experts to assemble the best possible pitch. And Trump, or at least the people around Trump, are ‘more disciplined’. One can only imagine:

– A handful of staffers have sorted out Trump’s favorite red & pink Starbursts, and are attempting to rejigger traditional potty-training methods to get him to repeat clip-friendly talking points

– Since neither Ivanka nor Melania will cooperate, others negotiating with Kimberly Guilfoyle for her to stand by the main monitor & flash her tits when he needs to be brought to attention

– Peter ‘Bathory’ Thiel’s office has stonewalled on loaning the campaign a few of their spare twinks, so staffers are trying to contact known Trump supporter Tom Brady to donate some fresh premium-quality plasma

Let Them Fight.

Maybe I’m just petty, but I love this feud Kevin McCarthy has with the people who booted him out of the House. I hope it’s the gift that keep son giving.

Kevin McCarthy: “I’ll give you the truth why I’m not speaker. It’s because one person, a member of Congress [Matt Gaetz] wanted me to stop an ethics complaint because he slept with a 17-year-old”

It appears that McCarthy maybe played a role in the Rep. Good’s race.  Did he lose, or is it still too close to call?

I’m generally in favor of anything that pits Republicans against Republicans.

Totally open thread.

Speaking of Las Vegas, and Nevada in General

This post is in: Elections 2024, Open Threads, Politics, Supreme Court Corruption

This is AOC speaking in Las Vegas, campaigning for Jacky Rosen and Joe Biden, but especially Jacky Rosen, I think. Republicans are coming hard after Jacky Rosen’s seat. You will recall that earlier this year we raised funds for Four Directions in Nevada.

Well, we’re not stopping there.

Just to give you a little peek ahead, we are trying to connect with a couple of organizations in Nevada to see if they might be a good fit with our strategic fundraising. That’s all I’ll say for now.

Check out this 2-minute barn burner of a close from AOC.  I like AOC and I think she’s good for Democrats overall, but I’m not one of the “oh, she should be president one day” club.  Bat damn, I got goosebumps watching her closing here. h/t trollhattan

AOC: I have a message for this conservative court and Donald J. Trump. The women and people of this state do not consent. And the woman and people of this country certainly do not consent to Donald Trump nor this corrupt court that he has enabled. pic.twitter.com/I6MfefIrae

— Acyn (@Acyn) June 22, 2024

She even calls out the corruption of the not-so Supreme Court.  Watch it if you can!
