ABC, which is owned by Disney, has cancelled Roseanne.
ABC on cancelling 'Roseanne':
"Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show."
— NBC News (@NBCNews) May 29, 2018
ABC's cancellation of 'Roseanne' comes after Roseanne Barr compared a former Obama adviser to an ape, and promoted false conspiracy theories about George Soros and Chelsea Clinton, including falsely accusing Soros of being a Nazi. https://t.co/n9ALtDCmgn

Disney CEO Bob Iger makes his own statement:
From Channing Dungey, President of ABC Entertainment: "Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show."

I started to write a post about Roseanne Barr’s racist as fuck tweets and Disney/ABC’s horrible decision not to fire her racist ass immediately. But then there’s other news, such as Trump’s ridiculous lies this morning about the Mueller team trying to throw the midterms to the Democrats, the Supreme Court decision that will allow wingnut states to drive more abortion providers out of practice and the new report about the death toll of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico: 4,645 killed. And it’s barely past noon.
I want another long weekend to begin right now. Open thread.

This post is in: Anderson On Health Insurance
Corner cases and off the mean clusters are where policies need to be thought through on how they really work and why they do what they do and to whom. In US healthcare policy, the median individual is barely touched by the medical system in a given year. Anything that is straightforward and cheap works for someone who is retrospectively running up $300 in claims for the year.
This applies to Health Savings Accounts for only those who can afford a new tax sheltered savings account and it applies to Medicare for All sloganeering:
Out of curiosity, what do all y'all Medicare-For-All folks suggest happens to me? SSI = $750/month. Traditional Medicare has no out of pocket maximum. Part C plans 1) charge premiums and 2) have an out-of-pocket max of $6,700. Leaving me with *checks calculator* no money to live.

We need to think about cases like Matt’s. We need to think about cases like the $1 million a month man in Iowa.
These are the cases where we really need to think about our values and what we actually prioritize as these are catastrophic costs and risks borne by individuals or society. Medicare for All without a whole lot more scaffolding fails.
We need to keep this in mind when we think about the future — what do the tough cases look like under our musings and desires?

Good Morning All,
This weekday feature is for Juicers who are are on the road, traveling, or just want to share a little bit of their world via stories and pictures. So many of us rise each morning, eager for something beautiful, inspiring, amazing, subtle, of note, and our community delivers – a view into their world, whether they’re far away or close to home – pictures with a story, with context, with meaning, sometimes just beauty. By concentrating travel updates and tips here, it’s easier for all of us to keep up or find them later.
So please, speak up and share some of your adventures and travel news here, and submit your pictures using our speedy, secure form. You can submit up to 7 pictures at a time, with an overall description and one for each picture.
You can, of course, send an email with pictures if the form gives you trouble, or if you are trying to submit something special, like a zipped archive or a movie. If your pictures are already hosted online, then please email the links with your descriptions.
For each picture, it’s best to provide your commenter screenname, description, where it was taken, and date. It’s tough to keep everyone’s email address and screenname straight, so don’t assume that I remember it “from last time”. More and more, the first photo before the fold will be from a commenter, so making it easy to locate the screenname when I’ve found a compelling photo is crucial.
Have a wonderful day, and enjoy the pictures!
Please note: the form has been fixed. I’ve received 0 form submissions before today for about three weeks except for BillinGlendale and otmar. Anything else I’ve received I’ve published, so if your submission has not been published, it was eated and will need to be re-submitted.
So, if you sent stuff in via form, please re-send. You should receive a “successful submission” message so you know it worked.
Just a simple double-dose of awesome today!
Today, pictures from valued commenter Poptartacus.

Thank you so much Poptartacus, do send us more when you can.
Travel safely everybody, and do share some stories in the comments, even if you’re joining the conversation late. Many folks confide that they go back and read old threads, one reason these are available on the Quick Links menu.
One again, to submit pictures: Use the Form or Send an Email

Who are these Democrats who aren't doing anything besides running against Trump? Every actual candidate I know about is talking a lot about substantive issues, especially health care. This is a narrative invented out of thin air. https://t.co/Yoihzmhehb
— Paul Krugman (@paulkrugman) May 28, 2018
David Leonhardt, in the NYTimes, “Democrats Are Running a Smart, Populist Campaign”:
Stacey Abrams and Conor Lamb are supposed to represent opposite poles of the Trump-era Democratic Party. She is the new progressive heroine â the first black woman to win a major-party nomination for governor, who will need a surge of liberal turnout to win Georgia. He is the new centrist hero â the white former Marine who flipped a Western Pennsylvania congressional district with support from gun-loving, abortion-opposing Trump voters.
But when you spend a little time listening to both Abrams and Lamb, you notice something that doesnât fit the storyline: They sound a lot alike.
They emphasize the same issues, and talk about them in similar ways. They donât come across as avatars of some Bernie-vs.-Hillary battle for the partyâs soul. They come across as ideological soul mates, both upbeat populists who focus on health care, education, upward mobility and the dignity of work…
The lesson here isnât just about these two candidates. Dozens of other Democratic candidates also sound like Abrams and Lamb. The lesson is that Democrats are more united than many people realize â and are running a pretty smart midterm campaign.
Yes, there are some tensions on the political left. But these tensions â over Obama-style incrementalism vs. Bernie-style purism, over the wisdom of talking about impeachment, over whether to woo or write off the white working class â are most intense among people who write and tweet about politics. Among Democrats running for office, the tensions are somewhere between mild and nonexistent…
None of this means that Abrams will win in November â sheâs an underdog â or that the Democrats will take back the House. Trumpâs approval numbers, while weak, have risen slightly, and the midterm campaign has a long way to go.
So far, though, the Democrats are defying the clichĂ©s about their division and disarray. Theyâre giving themselves a good chance to win.
