Elon Musk’s super PAC has deleted their “Kamala Harris is a C word” ad that they posted two days ago. pic.twitter.com/P1CtGK2mCQ

Also since Elon just rolled out an ad calling Kamala the C word with typical edge Lordy just kidding schtick are we supposed to think Trumpworld finds this beyond the pale https://t.co/baiezs9RP9

— Josh Marshall (@joshtpm) October 28, 2024

Kamala’s a… Communist! *snigger* Lookit us bad boyz, fearlessly testin’ the guardrails!… like a gang of preschoolers who’ve just discovered the power of potty words. No wonder Elon greenlit the media buy.

Josh Marshall has an excellent explication:

Obviously this is who Trump is and this is what Trumpism is. But there's part of this that isn't widely enough known, tho it's well-known to a lot of reporters. And that is among GOP operatives and staffers under 30 or so the majority, maybe the great majority had their …

2/ political awakenings on sites like 4chan, 8chan, various far-right, incel and incel adjacent online communities. It crops up in various ways if you know where to look. It’s why DeSantis had those weird frankly homoerotic campaign vids during the primaries.

3/ They’re all awash in this world of casual racism, ironic provocation, not just misogyny but a weird emotionally-stunted kind of misogyny that to normal people isn’t just often either offensive or weird but even kind of inexplicable because it’s a very weird …

4/ inside idiom and self-referential world that is fairly alien to mainstream audiences. Again, I know I’m not saying anything new to say Trumpers are weird and racist and sexist and all the rest. But young staffers make up the world of political life. They’re …

5/ not the ‘talent’ or the big names yet. But they’re the workforce that makes thing happen. And that weirdo 4chany world is just deeply, deeply in the DNA. It’s not just that they’re into Trumpism. It’s that that largely only world is the space and the idea world …

6/ that made them decide they were conservatives, or Republicans or whatever association and home-ness in the right and far-right they have. So like I said, it’s deep deep in the political DNA.

7/ … continued / We know this in a watch just from watching the current GOP and when it comes to the surface in these weird ways. But I first realized this through various stories from the last five or six years, usually involving this or that outrage or scandal …

8/ and over-time it became really obvious that LOTS of these guys had very long histories/online identities in that world. In most cases with political origin stories in which they found their political identities in those online spaces. maybe it’s not surprising that …

9/ ones who got in trouble or stepped on a rake in some way had those backgrounds. But the other ones did too. Like it just kept coming up again and again. If you follow politics you know these guys are out there. We’ve been in this post-gamergate world for years. But I think …

10/ people don’t put two and two together a lot that this is where the new generation of GOP staffers and operatives is coming from. Again, under 30? Maybe a touch older. Not just in the offices and campaigns of the crazies but in those of the semi-normal folks too.

11/ It’s just pervasive. And really it’s not surprising because it fits with the current politics of the GOP. But it’s a bit ominous for the future. If you followed D politics in the 80s, 90s, aughts, you knew that pretty much all the big people, the candidates, the powerful …

12/ operatives had all first met on the Mcgovern campaign. Almost didn’t matter whether they were on the right or left of the party. That was the formative experience for all of them. In 2036 in the GOP it’s going to be 4chan.

Yeah, these Kkkiddies were a natural fit for Trumpism and its offshots. Meanwhile, the Harris / Walz campaign — and the SC(R)OTUS knifing Roe v Wade — has brought out (as far as I can tell) two very different demos to oppose them: Young non-White and LGBTQ* people/allies, and older Boomer women with long memories and time on their hands.

Maybe I’m a dreamer, but I like our odds in this ongoing battle.

Apparently the Trump Campaign Is Unable to Count

I really wanted to title this “They thought the only thing in their speeches that would be a bridge too far would be calling the Democratic Candidate for President a c*nt.”

The Trump Campaign Apparently Thinks Last Night Wasn’t That Big a Deal (The Bulwark)

h/t BR

My favorite paragraph:

Campaign advisers are united in their opinion that the Hinchcliffe controversy will blow over. Some were heartened by the fact that for once it wasn’t Trump who was at the center of the maelstrom. Others noted that they have overcome far worse.

Another excerpt:

Carlos Odio, a Democrat and founder of the Latino research firm Equis Research, said he’s not sure about the severity of the downstream political consequences of the controversy, save that it would be bad for Trump.

“We’ve gotten so used to the idea that nothing Trump or his allies say ever seems to move the needle,” he told The Bulwark. “Maybe it is the same now. Or maybe the exception turns out to be insulting a critical community in your tipping-point state while voting is already underway, using a joke so incendiary it breaks through almost instantly.”

Can these people even count?  Do they know that black people, Puerto Ricans, and women can vote?

Gov. Walz and @AOC react to this clip: “When you have some a-hole calling Puerto Rico ‘floating garbage,’ know that that’s what they think about you. It’s what they think about anyone who makes less money than them… I want every Puerto Rican in Philadelphia and Reading and… https://t.co/L5GdSvLJWT pic.twitter.com/y9DQTABM0v

The Only Poll That Matters…

by Rose Judson|  October 28, 20242:12 pm| 140 Comments

This post is in: Excellent Links, Open Threads, Politics, Women's Rights

…is already in the field. About two weeks ago I started checking in with the University of Florida’s Early Voting tracker website. Back in 2020, the daily updates there offered me a dose of reassurance, and this year is no different. The scholar who’s in charge of the project is Michael McDonald, who notes that as of this morning approximately 43 million of us have voted in the election. Click the embedded post to follow him on Bluesky (you can also find him at the Other Place, but I’m going to try not to embed tweets here when there’s a Bluesky account available):

#earlyvote morning update 10/28: at least 42.9 million people have voted in the 2024 general election 🥳

— Michael McDonald (@electproject.bsky.social) October 28, 2024 at 12:45 PM

The site has a nifty dashboard for parsing data by reported characteristics such as gender, party registration, etc. (Note that not all characteristics are available for all states.) Professor McDonald also has a Substack where he breaks down what he’s seeing in the data, but most of those posts are for paid subscribers only, unfortunately. This post, “Republican Antipathy Toward Early Voting May Haunt Them”, however, isn’t. It’s from October 20th, over a week ago now. It focuses on data out of North Carolina and notes that:

“North Carolina law allows counties to set times and hours for in-person early voting within state guidelines. The 2024 general election schedule of in-person early voting is here. Importantly, counties have the option of holding in-person early voting on the weekends, which the larger Democratic counties opted to do.

“Why didn’t Republican counties do the same? Probably because their election boards when making their plans heeded Donald Trump’s warnings that early voting is fraudulent. But as the unusual surge in Republicans voting the first days of in-person early voting suggest, these decisions were perhaps shortsighted because it cut off eager Republicans from voting over the weekend.”

He also notes that when Republicans are voting in North Carolina, they seem to be more women voters than men (I wonder how many of those Republican ladies are Nikki Haley crossover voters). In fact, early voting data generally shows a much larger gender gap so far this year:

show full post on front page

Here’s data from the states that report voter gender:

UFl early voter data by gender 10/27/24

That’s currently a gap of 10.4% between men who have voted and women who have voted. In 2020, according to the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers, the gap was 3.4%. Now, the current gender gap will undoubtedly narrow over the next eight days, as more people vote but that it is so large right now seems . . . interesting.

Some of our fellow commenters highlighted more early vote data that should provide you with some motivation, even if it doesn’t help you sleep better (and anyway, to quote Governor Walz quoting Warren Zevon: we’ll sleep when we’re dead).

First, dm posted this DailyKOS diary with some survey data of people who have already voted. The choice excerpt:

“Here are the polls and the Harris-Trump percentages those early voters have said they voted.

  • ABC/Ipsos: Harris 62-33
  • CNN:  Harris 61-36
  • NYT/Siena: Harris 58-40
  • HarrisX poll: Harris 61-32
  • USAToday/Suffolk: Harris 63-34

That’s 5 polls all showing roughly the same thing . . . That’s an average of 61.2% for Harris, 35% for Trump.”

(Bolding mine.) Within that DailyKOS diary there’s also a link to another data aggregator, TargetSmart, which offers a model of voter partisanship that is 47% Democratic, 44% Republican, and 9% other. So, again: interesting.

Next, Ceci n’est pas mon nym shared the latest article for Today’s Edition, a Substack newsletter run by a writer (and attorney? couldn’t confirm) named Robert Hubbell. Titled “Reasons to be hopeful!”, the article notes the belated turn by the press toward calling MAGA what it is, the lack of attention paid to women’s issues, and, most interestingly, a link to this Vox article about the gender gap in candidate preference in recent swing state polls. Behold this chart:

holy gender gap, batman!

Look at those North Carolina numbers. I hope you Tar Heels will help the rest of us have an early night on the 5th.

Finally, rarely is the question asked: is our white women learning? Apologies for the Newsweek link, but it appears the Rough Beast may only have 51% of white women behind him (as opposed to 56% in 2016 and 57% in 2020):

“This year Trump holds just a 1-point lead among white women, marking the weakest performance in this demographic for any Republican candidate this century, according to CNN political analyst Harry Enten, who cited an average of post-election surveys from 2012-2020 and pre-election surveys this year.

‘He’s doing the worst, if this holds, for a GOP candidate this century among white women,’ said Enten, who previously worked for FiveThirtyEight.”

Again: innnnnnnteresting. We’ll see whether this is all a mirage in eight days. Meanwhile, check in with all the angry ladies you know to make sure they’ve voted or have a plan to vote. This is down to us, it seems.

***

It’s hard to focus on anything other than the election this week, but there’s also a UK budget announcement and a Google earnings call coming on the 30th, plus Halloween, the best holiday, on the 31st. While the thread’s officially open, please do share any more early vote data you’ve seen – commenters make this place what it is! Thanks again to dm and Ceci n’est pas mon nym for the links.

Full-Blown Hate Rallies, Mini-Stop the Steal Rallies, Mini Jan 6 Rallies

AOC makes the point that these Trump rallies are full-blown hate rallies.  Mini versions of Stop the Steal.  Mini versions of Jan 6.  I think she’s right.  But if even 1% of Trump voters turn away in disgust, and decide not to vote,  that can be the difference between winning and losing.

Is this the October surprise?  Remember, almost none of the conventional wisdom applies anymore.  October has turned out to be more of an Advent calendar, with a surprise a day.

In the midst of all the ugliness, in the midst of seeing the terrible reality of the current Supreme Court, in the midst of seeing so may office holders caring nothing about democracy, caring nothing about the actual human beings they “serve”…

In the midst of all that, we have seen who the real leaders are and what our leaders are made of.  A few of them came away tarnished, but damn, do we have a great bench, or what?

As a party, we have learned to fight back in a different way.

We have learned to speak the truth in a different way.

We are learning to ignore the media organizations that have little or nothing to do with journalism.

In some cases, what where there once was coal, or what appeared to be coal, there are now diamonds.

OAC and Walz on Twitch yesterday.

Assuming we get through this with a win, we couldn’t possibly have a better team to help us move forward.

Mean, the GOP’s Make-A-Wish department gave a sundowning TFG the Madison Square Garden rally he’s always wanted. Not sure how much any of us want to explore over breakfast, but let’s say it does *not* seem to have impressed even the most supine of our Very Serious Media…

This Madison Square Garden rally is the most compelling case against Trump and MAGA ever made in one place and at one time.

— David Rothkopf (@djrothkopf) October 27, 2024

Trickster God permit Huffpost‘s David Rothkopf gets his wish… “Donald Trump’s Racist NYC Rally Was Vile. It Was Also Political Suicide”:

… On Sunday at MSG, Donald Trump engineered what will be seen by political analysts and later by historians as the coup de grâce that killed forever his prospects of being president and may well have set him on a post-election course on which he finally may be held accountable for his actions.

The interminable rally concluded by an interminable, disjointed, incoherent and yet clearly vile speech by the former president, might have been touted by Trump’s son Don Jr., one of his warm-up acts, as the “King of New York returning to reclaim his crown.” But Trump was never the King of New York. (Sorry, Lara, your father-in-law did not “build” New York. Immigrants did. But we’ll get to that in a minute.)

Trump has always been loathed in New York City, especially in his former home borough of Manhattan where the vote against him was and will be dependably over 80 percent. But if he was hated before, rest assured he will be more despised after tonight.

That was clear early on when Tony Hinchcliffe, a man invited by Trump to give one of the introductory speeches—who in true MAGA fashion alleged without providing a shred of evidence that he was a comedian—offered a KKK buffet of nauseating slurs. He called Puerto Rico “a floating island of garbage.” …

Elon Musk was there acting strangely and promising to slash the size of the government (except, presumably, the parts that are subsidizing his businesses)…

In other words the entire event, despite its marathon length and hodgepodge of z-list speakers, delivered over and over again a very focused message. The Trump campaign is about retribution and revenge. It is about the white supremacist desire to purge America of all their neighbors of different colors and beliefs. It is about Trump’s desire to seek out his enemies and punish them. And over the course of its Wagnerian length (and resonances) it singled out group after group that would be deported or punished.

From a political perspective the strategy is pure suicide. The rally will almost certainly alienate more voters who might have voted for Trump and it is hard to imagine it has earned him one single new vote. (Unless there is a Franz Liebkind somewhere who has been too busy writing “Springtime for Hitler” to have paid attention to the campaign until now.) It was a play to the base when the biggest problem Trump has in this election is breaking through his rock solid ceiling of around 47 percent of the electorate….

… Trump’s Sunday rally at Madison Square Garden was, as it turned out, far more ominous than its predecessor. It should chill Americans to the bone. But, I expect it will do more than that. I believe it will mobilize more voters to take action on Nov. 5 to stop the 21st-century fascism of Trump and MAGA.

Trump may be thinking the rally will help him mobilize thugs to violence when he contests his loss and we should be wary of that. But he has provided on the eve of the election the best case why he must be defeated that has ever been presented. In the end, because what unfolded was so foul and so offensive and threatening to so many of us, I believe that is why we will someday conclude that for all intents and purposes Trump’s final political act occurred on the biggest stage in America’s biggest city, a couple of blocks from Broadway.

NASA chief calls for investigation into report that Musk and Putin have spoken regularly https://t.co/3DCpUM6e0D

— Milenaac (@milenaac) October 26, 2024

Wonkette is a national treasure, and this Evan Hurst post deserves the widest possible circulation… “Maybe Elon Musk *Is* The 2024 Russian Election Attack”:

With a week and a half to go until the election — and nothing but chaos in sight between now and then — a huge article has come out in the Wall Street Journal about Elon Musk’s secret telephone tonguefuck sessions with blood-covered Russian baby murderer Vladimir Putin, which brings to mind just one question for us:

Is the 2024 Russian attack on the US election actually just one pathetically needy absolute loser of a richest man in the world named Elon Musk?…

  • Putin and Elon been having their little secret fuckchats for a while now, going back as far as 2022, plus Elon’s had other fuckchats with other Russian bigwigs close to Putin.
  • Putin was like hey Elon, can you plz not let Taiwan have Starlink? Asking for a friend who is the dictator-for-life of China.
  • Though Elon was initially supportive of Ukraine’s side in the Russia/Ukraine war— as one would expect any decent person to be, since it’s customary to defend the side that gets invaded for no reason, which in this case also happens to be our ally, as opposed to the side that does the invading/baby murdering — he quickly changed his tune on that later in 2022, when he wouldn’t let Ukraine’s military use Starlink for any kind of offensive operations. Guess who benefited from that? Elon has said he wouldn’t allow it because he — in his infinite fucking wisdom about goddamned nothing — was pretty sure it would cause a nuclear war. Any idea who whispered that Kremlin lie in his butthole? We can only imagine.
  • One of the Russian officials Elon has fuckchatted with is Putin’s first deputy chief of staff Sergei Kiriyenko, who according to the US government has created domains for the spread of Kremlin disinfo, including on the Nazi hell-husk formerly known as Twitter, which Elon owns.
  • The Kremlin has put pressure on Elon and his businesses, and there have been “implicit threats against him.” Cool friends, dude. Beggars can’t be choosers, we guess.
  • As we have discussed previously here, there is just about no Russian propaganda Elon Musk isn’t a stupid enough useful idiot not to fall for. Whenever he speaks on the subject, it’s amazing how he just barfs out whatever Putin wants…

show full post on front page

As the WSJ notes, Elon Musk has billions of dollars of US government contracts, and is the “primary rocket launcher for the Pentagon and NASA.” He has a classified clearance. So it’s kind of weird to have him tongue-fucking our sworn enemies’ assholes on the side, yeah? Could all this be a problem, eh, President Joe Biden?…

And now Elon has basically moved to Pennsylvania to help “stop” (start) the steal for Donald Trump, who has basically promised that if he’s elected, Elon will get to be the secretary of making sure nobody ever tells Elon no.

Seems like in an ideal world the US government would probably immediately cancel all of Elon Musk’s government contracts, immediately open a criminal investigation, and perhaps even confiscate all the Walmart wastebasket-on-wheels Cybertrucks to make sure they’re not covertly spying for the Kremlin…

you have to wonder if there has been (or will be) a point where trump wises up to the fact that musk isn’t campaigning for trump, he’s basically campaigning as shadow president

War for Ukraine Day 977: A Brief Sunday Night Update

    by Adam L Silverman|  October 27, 20248:54 pm| 7 Comments

This post is in: Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, Military, Open Threads, Russia, Silverman on Security, War, War in Ukraine

Two quick housekeeping notes. First, Rosie continues to improve as we get farther away from her final chemo treatment last Monday. Her appetite is coming back and we did a 3/4 of a mile walk this evening. Thank you for all the good thoughts, well wishes, prayers, and donations.

Second, despite spending much of the weekend asleep, I am still fried. I am just going to run through the basics so I can get cleaned up and racked out. I know I still have to get to the Dougan and Musk influence operations and I will get to them this week.

Over 75% of Ukraine is currently under air raid alert at 8:50 PM EDT/2:50 AM local time in Ukraine. No indication of Russian strategic aviation aloft, so this morning’s attack will be another drone swarm.

I’m actually going to start with the Georgian election. Salome Zourabichvili, the President of Georgia, has rejected the outcome of yesterday’s election and alleged that the ruling Georgian Dream Party, which is aligned with Putin and Russia, has engaged in widespread and wholesale election rigging and fraud.

As the last independent institution, I cannot recognize these elections – it would legitimize Russia’s takeover of Georgia. Our ancestors endured too much for us to surrender our European future. pic.twitter.com/BqJ5bEleFl

I urge our international partners to protect Georgia by standing with the people, not an illegitimate government.

Just as you opposed the Russian law, we ask you to stand with us again. These elections are illegitimate, and nothing can change that. pic.twitter.com/D7aeaTEjMM

Georgian journalists faced intimidation and violence while covering the country’s crucial parliamentary elections. European election observers said on October 27 that the vote took place in a “divisive” environment with widespread intimidation and instances of violence. pic.twitter.com/Jx0tLtTT4x

    — Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (@RFERL) October 27, 2024

    From Civil Georgia:

After a day of intensive consultations with opposition parties following the 26 October parliamentary elections, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili held a briefing in which she said she would not recognize the official results.

She thanked all the voters who voted for Georgia’s European future: “There were lots of you, you won in these elections and no one has a right to take this European future away from us.”

President Zurabishvili thanked observers and media who, who in difficult circumstances, did everything to protect the votes.

But she said “there were so many violations that it was impossible to detect them all”. She said: “We witnessed something very unusual: this was a total falsification, a total stealing of votes, using all the tricks that can be used to falsify elections, and on top of that – the use of modern technologies to whitewash the elections.

She said it was unprecedented, adding: “We were witnesses and victims of a Russian special operation, a new type of hybrid warfare waged against our people.

“On that day we were deprived of the right to vote. These were Russian elections, they stole the electoral institution from us, and they stole our constitutional right to vote, including from our emigrants.”

“I am grateful to our international partners who exposed the violations,” she said, but noted that it was not enough.

“I want to say, as the only independent institution, that I don’t recognize these elections. These elections cannot be recognized. We won’t accept this.” She added: “We are going to stand together and say: We will not accept this new form of subjugation by Russia”.

The President called on citizens to gather on Rustaveli Avenue on October 28 and “tell each other and the world that we don’t recognize these elections, we defend our constitutional right and every vote and our future. It is our right to have just, free and fair elections. This will be a symbolic act to show the world our will”.

She called on international partners to stand by the Georgians.

“Nothing can make these elections legitimate,” she concluded.

Putin has already dispatched his catspaw to Tblisi:

📋 Invited by Georgian @PM_Kobakhidze, PM Orbán will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, Minister of National Economy Márton Nagy, and Finance Minister Mihály Varga. The visit will feature both one-on-one and plenary discussions, followed by a joint press statement.

No we wait to see what the Georgians do because at the end of the day, no one – not the EU, not NATO, not the US – is going to do anything more than issue public statements.

Here is President Zelenskyy’s address from earlier today. Video below, English transcript after the jump.

We Expect More Diplomatic Developments and New Support Packages for Ukraine in the Coming Week – Address by the President

    27 October 2024 – 20:28

    Dear Ukrainians!

Today, we’re preparing to work with our partners throughout the week. In particular, with our European partners – those who support us in a very principled and effective way. We have created this new format of cooperation – Ukraine plus the countries of Northern Europe. And within this format, we are constantly increasing our interaction – defensive, political, and economic. At the core of it all is our value-based interaction, our vision of life in Europe, and the kind of Europe we want to pass on to future generations: definitely safe, definitely democratic, and definitely capable of protecting the interests of Europeans. I am grateful to each country in this format: Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland. Thank you. We expect all partners to support the Victory Plan. They all equally understand the importance of being decisive. They recognize the need to create problems for the aggressor, so that Russia loses its capacity to make life worse for the world. We’ll be discussing new decisive steps with the Nordics that could increase pressure on Russia for this war and in the name of fair diplomacy. So, we expect more diplomatic developments and new support packages for Ukraine in the coming week.

Of course, the key priority is to support our positions in the most challenging areas, to back our warriors, to boost domestic arms production, especially drones. Denmark has made significant investments toward this end, and we’re working with partners to encourage them to join. We are working separately at the level of countries and at the level of the world’s largest energy equipment manufacturers to strengthen our energy system before winter. This concerns, first of all, border and frontline communities, cities like Sumy, Kharkiv and others that are located too close to Russian territory. Government officials and our respective diplomatic representatives, as well as energy companies, have clear tasks, including those related to our partners in Northern Europe. We will step up these efforts.

And a few more things. I would like to thank several of our combat brigades for their efforts this week. The 25th separate airborne brigade, the 79th air assault brigade, the 35th separate marine brigade, the 65th separate mechanized brigade, the 425th separate assault battalion and the 27th separate artillery brigade. Well done, warriors! On different fronts, you performed equally well for Ukraine. Today, I also received reports from Commander-in-Chief Syrskyi – on the front and the Kursk operation – and from Defense Minister Umerov – on contracts for domestic weapons production.

And today a lot has been said about the Ukrainian language and Ukrainian culture. Today we celebrate the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language. And on such a day, it is important to say that only real results can actually preserve everything ours, everything Ukrainian. In this war, we are fighting an enemy that seeks to destroy everything Ukrainian in Ukraine. That’s why every action for our nation, every accomplishment that strengthens Ukraine is of paramount importance. We can only win this war together – and only together can we save Ukraine. Not every man for himself, but all for Ukraine. And this is how we should work every day – all for Ukraine. Everyone at their own level. Everyone in their place. Thank you for all the results for Ukraine!

    Glory to Ukraine!

Now, they are working in the same evacuation team in the Kharkiv region: she saves lives, he drives. Soon, Tetiana and Andrii plan to get officially married.

May they have many peaceful and happy years together!

“Putin will be dangerous to the whole of Europe as long as he remains in power” – former Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė @Grybauskaite_LT

“Putin’s Russia today is a dangerous neighbor. It’s not just Russia — it’s Putin’s Russia… Until his end, he will remain in a war-like state of mind, making him a constant threat to the European Union and its neighbors,” Grybauskaitė explained in an interview with Euronews.

According to the politician, a peace deal in Ukraine, which would allow Russia to maintain the occupied territories, as Putin wishes, would only give Moscow time to prepare for aggression against other neighboring countries, such as the Baltic States and beyond.

“If we in the West and NATO allow Ukraine to yield and make this kind of compromise, it will mean the West has failed to stand up to the terrorist state at our borders,” Grybauskaitė said.

She also assured that regardless of the outcome of the second round of parliamentary elections in Lithuania, the country would maintain its European and pro-Ukrainian policy direction.

In an interview with German media, Ms. Valtonen also mentioned that Russia is waging a hybrid war in Europe already, with France and Germany as its main targets, and cautioned against falling into the trap of the Kremlin’s disinformation: “If anyone thinks that war can be stopped by halting arms deliveries to Ukraine, I can only say one thing: this will not lead to the end of the war, it can only lead to the end of Ukraine.”

I’ve neglected to fully convey the reality of living in Kharkiv, a city near the frontline in Ukraine. This was a mistake.

While the city remains fully functional, with public transportation, healthcare, shops, markets, cafes, parks, cinemas, and whatnot all operating, it faces daily threats. Bombings occur without warning, and the city is defenseless before russian attacks, except maybe occasional interception of drones. Aerial bombs and missiles get us every time.

Those two things are not mutually exclusive! Despite the dangers, people persist. Whether it’s to protect their homes, life’s work, or simply out of defiance, many choose to stay.
Yet the situation is dire. Morale is low, and people are weary from the constant bombings, moving frontline, and the looming winter.

We continue to live our lives as best we can, just as we have before, and will continue to do until victory or as long as it is possible.

Please continue to advocate military assistance to Ukraine and weapons use restrictions removal to save lives in Kharkiv and the rest of Ukraine
