In personal news, Joelle sends her gratitude for all your kind words.

It has been a month since I fell and re-injured my shoulder, and while my range of motion is almost back, there is significant pain, so I have an appointment with the shoulder surgeon on Tuesday morning. Might end up getting scoped again, because I never dealt with the bone spurs from five years ago and now it feels like my rotator cuff is torn. How do I know this? Because it feels like it did the last time this happened. Fucking bullshit I’m so tired of this crap.

Finally, I got all the rest of the signs delivered, clearing my weekend to work on the yard and house in preparation for Homecoming next week. Joelle arrives on Wednesday night, so I have a solid four days to get shit together. Wish me luck.

Matt from We Rate Dogs went on a walk with Tim Walz and Scout – and took a lot of crap about it on the elon hellscape. But OMG, how wholesome is this?

And Scout weighs 110lb? That’s a big dog – Trixie is barely in 110. (She’s super skinny, but tall).

Anyway, didn’t want you to miss the entire video if you hadn’t seen it. I’d only seen snippets until tonight. And it really brightened my night. And now instead of feeling guilty about not walking the dogs, I’m going to take them on a quick jaunt before dinner. It will do us all good.

Two quick housekeeping notes. First, Rosie is doing great. Thank you all for the good thoughts, well wishes, prayers, and donations.

Apparently you can strike a Russian base well behind enemy lines.

Helping Ukraine defeat Russia will isolate Iran, thus degrading Iranian support for Hizbollah, Hamas, and Houthis. It will also send a message of deterrence to China. These wars are connected…parts of one strategic challenge to our way of life, requiring political will, industrial capacity and military capability.

Who knew?

I expect that the Biden administration will now turn off the long range weapons systems and the flow of long range weapons to Ukra… Wait, I’m getting an update: Israel.

Here’s the butcher’s bill from last night’s Russian attack:

Russia continues to terrorize the civilian population of Ukraine, overnight launching 105 Shahed kamikaze drones onto several regions of the country.

Despite the relentless attacks, Ukrainian air forces are still downing the majority – this time successfully eliminating 78.

Ukraine is forbidden by the US to strike the source of the attacks with western weapons.

From The Kyiv Independent:

About 15 Russian drones were detected and shot down near Kyiv overnight on Oct. 3, city authorities said.

The air raid alert in Ukraine’s capital lasted 5.5 hours, with explosions reported in Kyiv and surrounding areas.

Drone attacks on Kyiv have increased in recent weeks, with Russia launching several groups of drones at night, approaching from various directions and altitudes, according to the Kyiv City Military Administration.

“The enemy launched the first groups of drones before midnight, but more and more UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) were constantly added throughout the night,” authorities reported on Oct. 3.

“Nevertheless, none of the Russian drones reached their target.”

Debris from downed drones fell in Kyiv’s Desnianskyi district. No damage or injuries were reported.

Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russia launched 105 Shahed-type drones across Ukraine overnight. Seventy-eight were shot down across 15 oblasts, while 23 were lost to electronic warfare, and one flew toward Belarus, the statement said.

Seattle Meetup: Aug 22, 2024!

Meetup report from Dan B!

We had a wonderful Meet-up for Seattle Jackals to extend our hospitality to Sister Golden Bear.  She’s touring western Washington and SW B.C.  Eight of us, counting my partner Mike and Mr. Opiejeanne, arrived via light rail and car to my house in mid Beacon Hill.  The plan was to watch Kamala Harris make history.  It didn’t seem possible to find a restaurant that would have a TV on the convention so I volunteered my house, risky considering the reputation of “Snarling Mass of Seething Jackals”  or some such description.

We had wine, bubbly, Dim Sum, super spicy Hit and Sour soup, and Opiejeanne’s incredible almond tart.  Everyone got to see the gardens in a very quiet phase and the Crazy amount of grading / earth moving / paving, etc.  And they observed Mikey’s (my partner) den, with antique dentist chair, baby fridge, huge plasma TV and more, plus his Clubhouse (formerly toolshed – sob).  One cat, of three, was sighted briefly.

Sister Golden Bear gave the three intrepid light rail riders a ride home to far north Seattle so they didn’t have to ride late at night.  On her way back to her hotel she was thrilled by the view of downtown south of Lake Union.  The high freeway bridge is a fantastic viewpoint.  We hope she has a great trip this coming week, better than her flight here from San Jose sandwiched between two hulking guys.

Dan B sent this to me awhile ago and I dropped the ball.  I suck.  But it looks like a great meetup!  If someone can remind me of the date, I’ll add that.

As far as I know, Dems Abroad has never had signs to give out before. I’m so happy to have one! DA is more organized than I’ve ever known them to be. William is a Very Good Boy (except when he steals tuna) Open Thread

William isn’t just a good boy, he’s a very lucky one as well.

He’s living in his new house with eclare. with a room of his own, with his very own window seat that appears to have been painted for camouflage.  (Though I’m guessing that might not be the case.)

eclare tells me that this perch is in “his” room, and that William is very soft and fluffy.

If I recall correctly, William was the stray who was being fed – he must think he won the lottery!  Kudos to satby and eclare for William’s new life.
